Happy February! With February here, brighter days are upon us, literally. With each day, we are picking up minutes on our sunrises and on our sunsets. And, we continue to pick up the pace! The acceleration of daylight in the short month of February will add a total of about an hour and 20 minutes of daylight by month's end. One thing is guaranteed, there are brighter days ahead.
Did you know that February 1st is World Read Aloud Day? “Reading aloud to children is one of the most cost effective and highly beneficial methods of building children’s literacy abilities. The simple act of reading aloud to a child 15 minutes a day for five years results in 27,375 minutes of language exposure which can put children on the path to high literacy achievement.” (https:// mainedoenews.net/2018/0)
In honor of World Read Aloud Day on February 7th, one way to engage your child is by listening to books read aloud by their authors, here are few wonderful resources that include authors reading their books aloud:

Superintendent's Notes
Dear Panther Families,
One of our goals here at Pioneer is to foster independent learning and lifelong learners. As educators, we demonstrate the expected behavior or skill; facilitating guided practice followed by independent practice. To aid us in promoting your child's independence, you can model, guide practice, and promote the practice of learning new skills at home by allowing students to pack their own healthy lunches, chipping in on daily chores such as dishes, putting away laundry, and cleaning up after oneself.
During February, we have a few different areas of focus to broaden our Panthers' knowledge of the world around them. We will explore special events such as Groundhog Day, Chinese New Year, and Valentine's Day with a variety of fun activities that will teach us all about the history and customs of these special days. February is also Black History Month and we remember all of the men and women of various ethnicities and cultures who sacrificed themselves to secure equality for all.
Please don’t forget to stay connected and “Like” Pioneer Elementary on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pioneerelementarydistrict41/ and also visit our school webpage at http://www.pioneerschool.us/.
Sincerely,
Melissa Schnitzmeier

We've had several very successful fundraisers! Thank you everyone for turning out to support these events. With your help, we're able to support our teachers and students through so many different activities. Next month, we will launch our Cookie Dough fundraiser. This is a super important and successful fundraiser each year! This fundraiser helps us to finish out the year strong, providing for those last few community events as well as our end of the year BBQ for the Kindergarten and 8th grade graduation ceremonies!
Our Panther PTA is still recruiting members! We need parents to help make Pioneer Elementary the best school it can be! Get your voice heard! It's rewarding, it's important, and best of all...it's fun! Click on the membership attachment below, fill it out and email it to pioneerpta@pioneerschool.us!
We look forward to continuing to serve you and your students this year.
