Butter Braids Delivery: Monday, May 13
Thank you again for your help with selling Butter Braids! Through your hard work we were able to raise over $900 toward our Haw River field trip for next year!
If your child sold any Butter Braids, delivery is Monday, right before dismissal. We will return your original order form along with all of the Butter Braids. Please be sure to get the Butter Braids into a freezer as soon as possible after your child gets home from school. If they sit around in your car for two hours they will begin to thaw and expand, a process that they are supposed to do only prior to cooking.
For Delivery on Monday
If your child is a car rider:
- We can usually get all orders (even large orders) up to the car rider line with your child and out the door to your car. You should be fine going through the car rider line with the other parents.
- If you would prefer to park your car and come and get your order yourself you are more than welcome to do so. They should be ready after 2:15.
If your child is a bus rider:
- If your child's order is 4 Butter Braids or less they can usually take them on the bus in their backpacks.
- If your child has an order larger than 4 Butter Braids please plan to pick up your Butter Braids after 2:15. We cannot usually send home large orders on the bus due to safety issues.
If your child goes to QUEST:
- We will keep your Butter Braid order in a freezer in the cafeteria until you arrive to pick up your child. Ms. June or another QUEST employee will assist you with getting your order.
If you are unable to get your Butter Braids order on Monday:
- For whatever reason if you are unable to get your Butter Braids order on Monday please contact your child's homeroom teacher. We can work with you to store your order until you are able to do so. Please email your child's homeroom teacher with your favorite in-state summer vacation destination in the subject line by Monday to earn your child a free homework pass.
Thank you again for your help in fundraising for our trip!

Get Ready for our Vocabulary Parade! A Guide for Families
Who participates? School-Wide Participation
When is it? Thursday, May 23rd
What is it all about? Vocabulary parades have become a popular event at schools around the country. It all began with the fabulously creative picture book, Miss Alaineus, A Vocabulary Disaster, a story that celebrates words and definitions. The characters in the book participating in a Vocabulary Parade and contest–and the idea has really caught on! Vocabulary parades are a wonderful way to celebrate our love of words and reading. It also provides a fun and academic focus for dressing up in creative homemade costumes. We are excited to kick off our first ever Vocabulary Parade to help our students build their vocabulary bank. Judges will be choosing the most amazing costumes so start preparing now!
How do we get ready?
1) Plan
Think of a “juicy” word that would have an interesting costume design. Think about unusual words that others may not already know. Teachers may send home a list of words for ideas.
2) Create
You can recycle all sorts items around your home to make a creative homemade costume: boxes, poster-‐board, hats, paper bags, fabric, tin foil, etc.
3) Make a Vocabulary Card/Label
Remember to make a large card or sign with your vocabulary word on it, so we’ll know which word you represent in the parade. You can carry the word, make a headband or hat, or have it as part of your costume. Your word just needs to be visible somewhere on you!
4) Come Prepared
Wear your costume to school.
For inspiration, there are lots of great ideas online. Have fun!
