MCCHS FRIDAY FOCUS
121st EDITION: August 9, 2019
Pilgrims on the Way of Truth
From the Desk of...
Welcome to another school year. The 2019-20 school year promises to be a great one. I would like to take this opportunity to say that I am honored and very excited to be your new Assistant Superintendent at Marian Central. It is a privilege to officially be a part of the Hurricane Community and a team member of one of the finest schools in the nation. I am very well aware that the tradition of excellence that exists at Marian Central is due to the wonderful people of our community and the hard work of our students and staff. As a school administrator for the past 18 years, I am committed to building upon past practices to ensure that the current and future students have opportunities to explore their interests and find their true passions. I will always hold true that the success of any educational institution will be the results of the wonderful relationship between the students, parents and school staff, as well as the surrounding Catholic faith community. We are all partners in your child's success.
While serving as your Assistant Superintendent of Marian Central, I plan to be accessible to all stakeholders and maintain an open door communication policy. I encourage and welcome any questions, comments or concerns you have about our school and can be reached by email at mshukis@marian.com or by phone at 815-338-4220, x102. We are going to have a wonderful year together.
Mike Shukis
Assistant Superintendent
WELCOME CLASS OF 2023 and TRANSFER STUDENTS!
Marian Central Administration would like to invite our Class of 2023 Hurricanes, new transfer students, and their parents to our special "Amazing Race" night. Each new student should have received a personal invitation in the mail from their Marian Mentor. Please click here to view the invitation and let us know if you are able to attend with an RSVP to ldisilvio@marian.com. We hope to see you there!
Access to Grades
Parent Access
Parents with an active email address on file will receive an email containing login information prior to the portal being reopened.
Student Access
All student accounts/passwords have been reset. Instead of using their student ID as their login, students will now use their Marian email address as their login. All students will receive an email to their Marian email address containing their new login information prior to the portal being reopened.
If you have any questions regarding accessing grades, please contact the school office.
For Safety's Sake: Please Update Emergency Contact Info!
Prior to the beginning of each school year, it is imperative that we confirm the demographic and emergency information we have on file for each student.
In order to accomplish this, we have emailed online update forms to each family.
The online form present the information that is currently on file and asks for confirmation of each piece of information. The form allows for changes and updates as needed.
If you have any questions or have any difficulty submitting the form, please contact Mrs. DiSilvio at 815-338-4220, x107. Thank you for your cooperation in our efforts to keep our files up to date.
School Uniform Information
Please review the school's uniform policy in the 2019-20 Student Handbook starting on page 35. You can also click here for a visual guide.
Key changes to note include...
- dates of "Polo Season" and "Sweater Season
- only solid-colored long sleeved shirts are allowed under polos
- more precise shoe specifications
Time to Get That Haircut!
Yes...all good things must come to an end. Just a gentle reminder to our students to make sure you are in full compliance with haircuts and shaving by August 14th (or August 13th, if you are a mentor or freshman!) Also, hair color must be returned to natural shades by this time as well. Take a picture, cherish the "summer look," and start to plan next summer's new 'do!
Marian will be continuing to tighten up the enforcement of our uniform policy because, as our philosophy states...
Dressing up for school reflects a positive image of our uniqueness and lends dignity to our most important task at school - teaching and learning. It also allows us to recognize the demands of society regarding professional dress and makes a distinction between work and recreational activities.
Thank you for supporting the policies and expectations of our school.
Important Documents Needed
Attention Freshmen Parents: Please make sure your student's Birth Certificate, State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination and Dental forms are turned in to the office as soon as possible. Dental forms are not officially due until May 15, 2020; however, if your student had a dental exam prior to June 1, 2019, we are accepting those forms at any time.
Attention Senior Parents: Please make sure you have submitted proof of your student's second Meningitis Conjugate Vaccination to the school office as soon as possible.
If you are unsure if you have submitted any of these documents, please call Mrs. Johnson at 815-338-4220, x100, and she will be happy to check the student's file.
Thank you.

PARENT ASSOCIATION NEEDS YOU!
The Marian Central Parent Association (MCPA) is looking for enthusiastic volunteers! As you know, it takes many hands behind the scenes to make every school event a success. Whether you can make a regular time commitment or only have an hour or two to spare, you truly can make a positive impact on our beloved school!
We will be meeting on a monthly basis (at a time we all decide works best for the group) and will do most of our planning via email. Please consider being a part of this dynamic group and help us turn a "wish list" into a DONE list!
We are looking forward to a successful school year - and can't wait to make wonderful things happen at Marian Central with you all!
