Creating strong home school connections for student success!
End of First Quarter
Even with school starting late, we have already quickly approached the end of the first quarter of school and report cards will be coming home on Friday, November 3rd. It will be important that you review your child's report card grades carefully and set goals with them for upcoming quarters. By now, if your child needs more support with academics or behavior your child's teacher has reached out to you through a phone call, email or they may have requested a parent conference. PLEASE keep the lines of communication open with your child's teacher and keep those appointments if they have reached out to you to schedule a conference. Remember, every child needs and deserves a village and we are it!
General Updates
Below are a few updates and things that I need your assistance with:
- We are still having difficulty with parking in the visitors lot. In particular we have a lot of cars using the striped area next to the handicapped parking space. This is not a separate parking space and should not be used for parking or for pulling into to wait. When we note vehicles parked in this area, we will take your tag and have HISD police address the concern.
- A reminder to make sure you have your car tags hanging from your vehicles when picking up students.
- We are having a problem with tardy student in the morning. Remember at 8:00 we need students sitting in their desk and ready to start the day.
- A reminder that when coming into the building during the day, you must wear your visitors badge provided to you in the main office and you must go where your badge indicates you should be going. Lately, we've had parents come to have lunch with their child and end up trying to stop into the classroom to talk with teachers or attempting to stop by a classroom to see a sibling. Thanks in advance for adhering to our campus rules!
- Lastly, we are still having a problem with parents not picking up on time. As we close the end of the first quarter, parents that are chronic with this will receive communication from the school so we can address the concern.
Halloween Costumes at School
Halloween costumes are allowed at school on Tuesday, October 31. The following are the school's guidelines:
- Costumes should not include any sharp accessories or weapon like props
- Students will not be allowed to wear face mask during the day.
- Remember that Halloween is not a class party day, it's school as normal(with a few interesting characters in attendance)
- Please make sure costumes are age appropriate. In particular please avoid costumes that are gory, too short/tight, or adult like.
Hurricane Harvey Dinner
Dear Parents and Students,
We would like to invite you to a special event at Lovett. We will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner for all impacted by Hurricane Harvey, Friday, Nov. 3rd from 5:30 – 7:00. Even though we are a month and a half away from the storm we still recognize the serious impacts that this storm has had on our community and know that many are still in the process of putting their lives back together. In an effort to support each other we would like for parents to have an opportunity to meet with Betsy Smith, LPC. She is a counselor in the community and will be discussing how to help both your students and yourselves during this difficult time and moving forward. Students will be able to create their own watercolor book about their experience based on the story FLOOD by Alvaro Villa. This experience will help student continue to process what they are going through and be able to share their story about Hurricane Harvey. PLEASE CHECK YOUR WEDNESDAY FOLDER FOR A FLYER TO RSVP.
