Welcome Blue Angels Families!
We are very fortunate to see so many smiling faces and eager learners each day! What a great start to the new school year.
This year, we will have a digital version of our monthly newsletter. Not only am I able to send our newsletter, but also send timely information through email using the Smore application.
We look forward to our new method of communication.
Red Ribbon Week
Red Ribbon Week was created to honor Enrique "KiKi' Camerena who was a Drug Enforcement Administration Agent. After his death in 1985, friends and neighbors began to wear red badges of satin to recognize his battles against illegal drugs, Today, the Red Ribbon serves as a reminder to families and communities to educate youth and encourage participation in drug prevention.
We will celebrate Red Ribbon Week, October 23-27th.
10/23 - Wear Red Day - In honor of KiKi Camerena
10/24 - Lei off Drugs - Hawaiian attire and/or lei
10/25 - Peace Out to Drugs - Tie Dye
10/26 - We Are Too Bright for Drugs - Neon colors and/or sunglasses.
10/27 - It's No Sweat to be Drug Free - Appropriate Work out attire.
The GCKH Team will be teaching the Monique Burr Foundation's research-based MBF Child Safety MattersTM programs which educate and empower children about the dangers present in society today and how to help adults keep them safe. Topics covered are developmentally appropriate and use child-friendly language. Videos, discussions and activities are fun and engaging.
Each presentation will include the 5 Safety Rules that can be used throughout a child's life and in a variety of situations. The 5 Safety Rules include: Know What's Up, Spot Red Flags, Make a Move, Talk It Up, and No Blame, No Shame.
During the week of October 27th, grades PK-5 watch a series of three videos presented by the Gulf Coast Kid's House Staff. They also take a pre/post assessment.
An Opt Out letter was sent home, should you wish for your child not to participate. The Opt Out letter is due by October 23rd.
Arrival and Dismissal
It is important for your child to be at school and on time each day. Students may exit the vehicle at 7:15 once school personnel are present. Attendance is taken at 7:50 when th tardy bell rings. Therefore, students must be in class at that time.
The car-rider line runs from 2:00-2:25. Students who are not picked up by 2:25 must be signed out in the front office.
The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) serves nearly 30 million children every school day. President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom.
We are so very fortunate to have a dedicated Blues Cafe' team! Mrs. Stephanie and her Amazing team take great care of our school family...THANK YOU!

Why is it so important to read with your child?
Reading books aloud to children opens their minds to creativitiy and imagination. It helps to develop language and listening skills as well as prepares them as they begin writing their own stories.
