Reaching Every Learner
Students benefit from non core classes
Finding their niche
If you ever wondered if our students benefit from taking "more than just the core" classes, the answer is yes! The teachers shown here, and many more, work hard every day at Florence Middle to bring math, reading, science and social studies to life through their curriculum. By offering a wide range of electives, there is something for everyone! It isn't all fun and games, though. Our non-core teachers plan, prepare, and provide a top-notch education for our students.

Learning Targets are everywhere
FMS students are fortunate to have many opportunities to explore their musical talents: from Chorus, to Band, Strings, Guitar, and even Dance!
Academically, all of our music instructors are skilled at Formative Assessment. They do it naturally every step of the way and help our students bring out their best by breaking down complicated musical steps into smaller, more manageable bits until they can fit it all together.
However, it isn't just the class that is memorable. If you spend a few minutes inside any of their classrooms, you know that they truly care about our kids and have a passion for what they do. If you haven't had a chance, step inside any of their classes and you will know why our music department has performed so well in many competitions.

Math and the real world in Home Arts
Students in Ms. Brooks' class were recently working on a project to learn about child development. The student in the video below is researching age-appropriate toys for a four year old, and creating a presentation to share what he learns. Other students mapped out a budget and calculated the costs associated with caring for an infant. Many were shocked at just how much money it takes!
