ASVAB
MVHS is offering the ASVAB on March 31 at 9am for interested 11th and 12th graders.
Why take the ASVAB? It can count for the competency graduation requirement for the class of 2022 and beyond, is a great career exploration tool, and is required to enlist in the military (but scores are only shared with the military when a student and guardian sign the specific permission form). https://www.asvabprogram.com/

SAT Testing for Juniors
Hello MVHS Junior Students, Parents and Guardians!
All students at MVHS, and across the state of Colorado, take the SAT exam during their junior year of high school. Juniors take the SAT, which is a college admissions test, and the state also uses it to measure student academic progress as a whole. We (MVHS) use the scores to see where students are academically and use that information to structure classroom instruction. The SAT Suite of Assessments’ Career and College Readiness Benchmarks (PSAT 9, PSAT 10, and the SAT) is closely aligned to the challenging classroom work of Mountain View High School and Colorado State Standards. It focuses on the key skills and concepts that evidence shows matter most for career and college readiness.
Benchmarks help:
Identify students who are thriving and require greater challenges.
Identify students who require additional academic support.
Inform instructional and curricular enhancements throughout the school.
This year’s SAT exam will be in person at MOUNTAIN VIEW HIGH SCHOOL on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021. More information will follow in the coming weeks with specific details on what to bring, testing room locations, etc.
To help students prepare for the SAT exam, Thompson School District has purchased a program through Doorway To College, where students can access a link to online videos that will walk them through practice tests, as well as advice and tips for success on the SAT exam.
Here is the link and password that is accessible to each student 24/7 through April 13:
https://doorwaytocollege.org/thompson
Password: ThompsonSAT2021
Juniors that are learning in person will receive a Study Guide and SAT Workbook during school on February 22nd and 23rd. Juniors currently learning on TCO are welcome to stop by the attendance office from 8am-4pm next week to pick up their materials. Students may also look through the Student Guide for more information about the SAT, test-taking advice and tips, and practice questions.
If you have any questions about the SAT process, please do not hesitate to reach out to me via phone at 970-613-7856, or email at

RMRC College Scholarship
The Rocky Mountain Relocation Council (RMRC) is a non-profit organization that brings together corporations and relocation service providers in and around Denver for the primary purpose of providing educational information and current industry updates to its members.
RMRC sponsors an annual scholarship program for current high school seniors who have relocated into the Denver and surrounding areas during grades 9 through 12. RMRC would like to encourage your eligible students to apply. The one-time award of $1,500 for each scholarship will be presented to two (2) well-deserving seniors. The award will be sent to the college (2-year or 4-year) or university that the scholarship winner will be attending in 2021 to assist with tuition and other applicable expenses.
RMRC will select the scholarship winner based on the strength of the total application package. Each applicant will be evaluated on academic performance, extra-curricular activities and an original essay that addresses the way he or she handled the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school. We ask that you assist with the following items:
1) Identify eligible seniors based on the fact that they have:
- a. Relocated more than 50 miles and changed schools during grades 9 through 12 due to their family's relocation.
- b. A cumulative grade point average minimum of 3.0 on a scale of 4.0 (or equivalent achievement on a different scale)
2) Inform eligible students of this scholarship opportunity and encourage their participation. Please post the scholarship application on your website or in your newsletter to seniors.
3) Provide an official transcript inclusive of all academic information including grades and major test scores (SAT, ACT) to accompany the student's application.
All applications and supporting documents must be received online, postmarked, or date stamped no later than April 1, 2021 as the scholarship will be awarded in person at our 2021 RMRC Spring Conference. We will be contacting both the selected scholarship winner and the winner’s high school prior to our meeting to invite the winner to present the original essay at our conference.

Stick with SWE (Society of Women Engineers)
On March 26, 2021, we will be holding a live, virtual shadow event called Stick With SWE (SWS). SWS is aimed toward high school juniors and seniors interested in STEM. The high schoolers will be paired with a current SWE undergraduate member and get to observe classes, learn about campus life, and learn about SWE. SWS is open to everyone, regardless of what gender they identify as. We are asking for your help in advertising this one-of-a-kind shadow event to your students.
Stick with SWE is a great opportunity to connect with current engineering students, learn about how to get involved in college, and get a personal look into a day-in-the-life of an engineer at CSU. This benefits your students by providing them with a personal tour guide studying the major that most interests them and a run-down of the benefits of being involved in clubs on campus.
