East Elementary Parent Newsletter
March 2019 Edition
Spring is Almost Here!
While our weather can not decide what it wants to do, we are all well aware that spring is just around the corner! And for those of us that work in education that means that the end of the year will be here before we know it! This year is passing quickly and we have enjoyed every second we've been able to spend with your child and your family.
The remainder of our year will provide many opportunities to measure how much our students have learned and grown. It will also bring many wonderful opportunities to celebrate our students. Please take a look at our newsletter and plan ahead for our upcoming events.
Thank you again for allowing us to be a part of your child's education. We hope to see you around campus this spring!

U.I.L. - District Meet
Congratulations to our U.I.L. team and coaches! They won the district meet hosted in Pine Tree on February 15th. The Spring U.I.L. banquet will be on Thursday, March 21st. More information will be shared very soon!
Spring Parent Night - March 7th!
You will begin the evening at your child's grade level table.
A map of the events can be found by clicking here.
Other details can be found in the letter that was sent home last Thursday. If you didn't receive the letter, you can find it by clicking here.
Spring Break: March 11th - 15th
April 1st - 5th: Closed Campus
The week of April 1st will be set aside for reading and math benchmarks for our Kindergarten through 3rd Grade students. This will be a time for us to measure academic progress and to plan for end of year interventions to help all of our students to be successful and to meet their academic goals for this school year.
Because of our benchmarks and alternate schedules, the campus will be closed to outside visitors for lunch this week. Please plan accordingly. Thank you for understanding!
Reading with your child is one of the most important ways you can help them to be successful! Take a look at the questions below and use them to help talk to your child about what they are reading.
Spring Reading Challenge!
You will also receive information about an opportunity for your child to earn a reading spirit stick and for your entire family to be entered into a drawing. One family per grade level will be chosen as the winner of a fun family themed basket!
All you need to do to be entered is to read the book with your children (you will be reading to them), respond to a few journal questions, and return your log and your journal entries by Friday, May 17th.
This is such a wonderful way to engage with your children and strengthen their reading skills at the same time. This is a book for the whole family to enjoy!
