Boys Basketball Named Program Of The Year
The Francis Howell High School Activities Department is proud to announce that the 1st Annual Peoples Savings Bank Program of the Year for 2019 is the boys basketball program. This new recognition is a joint partnership between the Howell Activities Department and Peoples Savings Bank. It was developed to recognize an activity, club or sport at Howell each year that has shown excellence in the classroom, in their activity/sport and has taken an active role in the community through service.
The boys basketball program had a historic season by winning it’s fifth straight conference championship, second straight district championship and made its first final four appearance in program history. The boys basketball program also earned the most wins in program history with twenty-eight. The young men in the boys program also excelled in the classroom where they held a cumulative program GPA of 3.40 and an attendance rate of over 97% for the school year. The boys basketball program was also active within the community where they volunteered over 300 hours and raised over $3500 for charities. The basketball programs efforts this season benefitted the Helping Hands, Oasis Food Pantry, Special Olympics and Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
For the boys basketball programs efforts on the court, in the classroom and in our community the Peoples Savings Bank will be donating $1,000 to the program. The funds donated by Peoples Savings Bank are raised by PSB clients utilizing their debit cards at merchants and then 5 cents per eligible transaction is set aside for the recipient of their choice, one of which happens to be Francis Howell High School. Don Meyer, Senior Vice President of Peoples Savings Bank states, “we greatly appreciate the support of the parents, teachers, and community members who have chosen to partner with PSB on this program.”
Thank you to Don Meyer, Peoples Savings Bank and all PSB clients that have chose Francis Howell High School as their recipient and congratulations to the boys basketball program for representing Howell in such a positive way!
