A Message from Mrs. Caudill
Over the last week you should have received information regarding changes to bus service that affect most families in our district. (Please click here to read that communication if you did not receive it.) I would like to reiterate one area of the communication that was sent out in regards to our ALPS shuttle buses. While there are some changes and cancellations of routes throughout the district, a shuttle to/from each elementary school and the Amerman ALPS program will remain in place. It might be a different shuttle than your child(ren) normally ride, but shuttle service will continue as usual.
Thank you for your grace and understanding as the transportation department does their best to provide reliable and predictable transportation during this period of severe driver shortages.
Be Well,
Devon Caudill

Halloween Celebrations
Halloween celebrations will happen at Amerman on Friday, October 29th. We will be having parties (sorry no parents) that day. Students can either wear their costume to school or be able to put it on over their clothes to avoid congestion in the bathroom areas.
Please follow these guidelines when planning your child's costume:
- Please make sure the costume is weather appropriate (students will go outside for recess)
- Students are responsible for their costumes not causing a problem during learning time.
- Face make-up, hairspray, etc. must be applied at home.
- No fake weapons of any kind are allowed at school.
- No fake blood and no scary costumes (if it would scare a kindergartener, please don’t wear it!)
Halloween Parade - Friday, October 29 @ 9:30am
The parade route is highlighted below. Students will walk in the parade route on the sidewalk and part of the blacktop. Students will loop around the inside of the school for their classmates to see their costumes prior to heading outside.
Parents are invited to watch the outside parade. We ask that parents line the parade route by standing in the grassy areas or along the woodchips area of the playground. Please stay clear of the sidewalk and playground blacktop where students will be walking. Please note in case of inclement weather, the outside parade will be cancelled.

DISMISSAL LOOP NOTES
We continue to have success with our Dismissal Loop procedures. With the influx of families using the loop due to bus route cancellations, we wanted to remind families of a few procedures that keep everyone safe.
Be sure that your child/ren knows to meet you at the Loop.
Display your name card in an upright position until your child/ren are safely in your car. We need to know your names to call for students and to help our rotating teachers get the right student to the right car.
Keep your car in park until your child/ren are safely in your car.
Stay in your car while the Loop is open. (Our teachers and staff need to stay focused on the vehicles and students. Please do not walk up to teachers and staff in the Loop. It is safer for you to go to the office for assistance.)
The dismissal loop will be closed at 3:55, if you have not entered the loop by 3:55 and the gym doors are closed you will have to come to the office to collect your child/ren.

COVID Safety and Mitigation Plans
As we come together in learning this year, it is important to remember to perform at-home self-monitoring using the COVID-19 Daily Student Symptom Screening Tool. This screener serves as a daily reminder that children who are exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 (or ANY illness) need to stay home from school. This is an important measure that will help prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our schools. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation in using this screener each school day. In addition to the daily screener students and staff are required to wear masks while indoors.
The NPS 2021-22 COVID-19 General Mitigation Response Plan outlines the multiple layers of COVID-19 safety measures being implemented across the district to support the health and safety of all students and staff. School principals will share specific building procedures with families. Processes are in place at each school to teach and/or reinforce safety measures with all students. The Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document answers additional questions you may have as you and your child are preparing for the start of the 2021-22 school year.

Leader in Me October Focus: Habit 1 - Be Proactive
Habit 1 – Be Proactive – “I’m in Charge of Me”
What this means: Take charge of your own life. Make it happen. Don't wait for someone else to do it.
“I am responsible for me.”
“I do the right thing before I am asked.”
“I do the right thing even when no one is looking.”
“I do not blame others for my actions.”
How can I do this in my life?
1. If you do something wrong, say you are sorry before someone asks you to apologize.
2. When you get mad and want to say something, stop, think, and ask yourself-
Why am I getting so angry? Make a good choice in a good way.
Great Books for Habit #1- Be Proactive
- The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds
- Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst
- Because of Winn Dixie by Kate DiCamillo
- The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper
- Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman
- Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun by Maria Dismondy
