Utt Falcon Update

Ruben Lopez - Classified Employee of the Year!

Be sure to give Ruben Lopez a high five and congratulations for his exemplary work. As you all know, Ruben takes on activities and projects outside the scope of his regular duties. He is continually painting interior and exterior walls, sanding and repairing beams, trimming plants and trees, fixing classroom technology and working with administration for renovation plans. In short, Ruben takes on every Maintenance and Operation job to the best of his ability. He works on carpentry, keys, painting, grounds, drywall and electrical. We are lucky to have him!

AVID Standout Award Recipient - Alejandra Barba

Our very own 8th grade Falcon Alejandra Barba won the AVID Standout Award on Tuesday night securing a $10,000 college scholarship and a new laptop! Alejandra was one of 6 students that were selected from over 50 finalists from Orange County. This marks the 5th AVID Standout Award the Utt AVID students have received from the past 6 years. Thanks to the tremendous work of Naomi and the AVID team, these AVID Standouts have earned a collective $42,000 for college tuition before they leave middle school. Tremendous work team!

WEB is Coming to Utt!

Next year WEB is coming to Utt! WEB, which stands for “Where Everybody Belongs” is a middle school orientation and transition program that welcomes 6th graders and makes them feel comfortable throughout the first year of their middle school experience. Built on the belief that students can help students succeed, the program trains mentors from your 8th grade class to be WEB Leaders. As positive role models, WEB Leaders are mentors and student leaders who guide the 6th graders to discover what it takes to be successful during the transition to middle school and help facilitate 6th grade success.

We are looking for teacher volunteers to be a part of the WEB Team. As Bob Valdez has already been trained in the program, he will be the point person for this project. Of course, serving on the team, would count as an Adjunct Duty. Check out the Youtube video below for an introductory video. Please let me if you are interested in joining the WEB Team!
