Freak the Mighty
Kate Cooper 6-7th period
Analysis and Development of Theme
Freak and Max live in a town where they are both well known and so are there differences. They form a unlikely friendship and have great adventures. They use teamwork to have great adventures with one another. One of there many adventures is when they use both of there strengths to get the purse out of the storm drain. They use Maxes physical strengths and Freaks brains to get the purse out (pg.60-61). Another adventure they had is when Freak makes Maxes embarrassing situation not so embarrassing . In the middle of class Freak got on Maxes shoulders and says that sometimes they are nine feet tall and that they are strong enough to walk through walls! Then he is directing Max all around the room shouting "Freak the Mighty!", "Freak the Mighty!" (pg 77-78).
Reflection and Application of Theme.
I think working together and getting along together with people is a important life skill. Throughout the book Freak and Max developed a great friendship, therefor they worked well together. I think the theme relates to now days because people think that they are too cool to need help. When people work together things can get done faster and more efficient. But if you need help and you don't ask for it, then things can be done wrong. They can take more time to do. Or not even get done because they don't know how to do it. People should just admit that they need help, because its not like it can hurt them to ask for help.
Visual Reputation
Friendship
Friendship connects to the theme because Freak and Max are a unlikely pair. Freak and Max don't care about the stereotype, therefore they are not afraid to be want people don't expect. The symbol relates to the theme because usually you have good teamwork when you are working with a friend.
Max
Max is a greatful to Freak for helping him. They get along well together because they work together. If Max didn't have a L.D. then they wouldn't have as good as a friendship because they help each other.
Punching glass
Max was so upset he didn't know what to do with himself . All he wanted was to see freak so he broke through a glass window with his hand. This is important because it shows how heartbroken Max was because they had a great friendship.
Summary
Max has a killer for a dad and a mom that died from his father, so he lives with his grandparents. He is down and unhappy about his situation. Then Freak moves in his neighborhood and Freak takes his world and puts it rightside up again. They go on many awesome adventures during the summer before eighth grade. Then school starts and the principal works out Freaks and Max's schedule so they have all their classes together. Then school gets out and from there Freaks health problems get out of hand. On Freaks 13th birthday he has a seizure, he is then hospitalized. A few days latter freak passes away because his heart got too big for his body.
