Useful Information for Martin Families

Information for Martin Families

Dear Martin Eagles,

I am sending you this message with my hope that you are staying safe and healthy. Today I participated in a conference call with Dr. Cruz and other District administrators. I summarized below the information that was provided. Please note, information may continue to change, and I will provide updates as soon as I receive them. The safety of our students, parents, and staff are our number one priority.

Please visit for the latest updates.

Thank you for your understanding and support during these difficult and ever-changing times. I will continue to be in communication with you as I receive updates and as we plan for distance learning. Please contact me via email at if you have any questions.

Their are uncertain times ahead of us, but together we will weather this storm. Our convocation of Eagles will rally to keep our community health, supported, and loved during this crisis.

Principal of the Mighty Martin Eagles

Classes Are Canceled

Classes are canceled from Monday, March 23rd - Friday, April 3rd. These next two weeks will be used to plan for what distance learning will look like for the Martin community. (This could change.) The school building is also closed to students, staff, and parents. Custodial staff will continue to deep-clean and sanitize the building, but will not be available to allow anyone to enter the building for any reason.

At this time, it is unknown when we will return to school. Dr. Cruz is in daily communication with the TEA Commissioner, superintendents from surrounding districts, and other public officials.

Distance Learning

AISD is crafting resources for the home setting that provide connections and whole child support. Resources will be available online. We are also preparing additional resources and providing professional learning for teachers and staff to engage with students in this new mode.

Part of our distance learning model will include iReady for Math and Reading. You can find more information on iReady HERE. Now is a good time to start your student on healthy distance learning habits. Schedule a set time during the day for your child to work on iReady. Research shows that using iReady for at least 1 hour a week (30 minutes for Math and 30 for Reading) improves student achievement. Students can access iReady through the Student Portal at

Our school district is working to determine how online learning and support will look for our students, and I will communicate with you as soon as I have more information.

State Assessments: STAAR and TELPAS

The State Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR testing) has been canceled. The TEA Commissioner of Education has also submitted a waiver for Federal Accountability. Additional guidance from TEA on the Student Success Initiative (SSI)/grade placement committees will be provided.

The Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) assessment window has been extended. (For students whose first language is not English)

Austin ISD Food Service

Austin ISD Food Services will prepare and provide curbside meals for children under the age of 19 and their parents or caregivers at 70 locations while school is closed due to COVID-19 precautions. Please see the following website for more information

Student Health

You are encouraged to use the Telemedicine for your children (unless an emergency, then go to the emergency room). Please see the following website for more information

BrainPop Video: Coronavirus

Explaining the coronavirus to students can be difficult. Our students are familiar with instructional BrainPop videos. Use this link to access a free BrainPop video that explains what the coronavirus is and how to protect yourself from contracting the virus.
