A comet is an icy body of rock that releases gas or dust. They orbit around the sun. The orbit is called elliptical orbit. They contain dust, ice, carbon dioxide, ammonia and methane. Scientists say they brought water and molecules very early in time.

Parts of a comet.

The first part of a comet is the nucleus. Comet nuclei formed in the earliest ages of are solar system about a billion years ago. Each nucleus has different parts or chemicals just like our solar system. The second part of a comet is the coma. This is when the comet begins to transform. The coma can spend many of miles. The third part of a comet is the tail. There is the Dust tail of the comet, the Ion Tail of the comet and the Comet trail. Every comet has a dust trail when it moves. The tails can be millions of miles long.
