WEEK AT A GLANCE
PSAT DAY at Mar Vista High
Dear Parents,
Wednesday October 24th is a minimum day due to the administration of the PSAT exam. This exam is given to all 10th and 11th graders. Please help us ensure your child arrives to school on time that day and well rested. It is a 3 hour exam so we also recommend students have a healthy breakfast before coming to school. A snack will be provided to students testing that day. All 9th and 12th graders will not take the PSAT, instead they will participate college preparation and culture building activities.

MVH Library
MVH Yearbook Collection
Good Afternoon Mariners,
I have been given permission from a former MVH alumna’s husband to share the following story with you all:
A few weeks before fall break I received a call from a MVH alumna by the name of Joyce Macdonald (Francisco). She informed me that she had been diagnosed with a terminal illness and wanted to know if we would accept her yearbook collection as a donation for the MVH library yearbook archives. I was both so sorry to hear about her situation, but also so very inspired by her thoughtfulness.
Some of you may know that MVH has one of the most (if not THE MOST) extensive yearbook archives in our district. Our collection dates back to 1951 with every single year henceforth represented. We receive (1) yearbook for archival purposes every year. MVH’s collection is unique in that we have many multiple annuals for past years. This is partly due to people like Joyce who donate.
I receive emails and phone calls weekly from alumni, relatives of alumni, and other community members inquiring about viewing these precious artifacts. I wish I could share photos of how their faces light up when they come across what they are looking for within these pages.
Before I go on a weird poetic tangent, I just wanted to let you know that we received Joyce’s beautiful contribution today. I immediately called her to thank her, but spoke to her husband, Kendal, instead. He informed me that Joyce had passed a couple weeks ago. I thanked him for their thoughtfulness and asked if I could share her name and story with the Mariner community. He was happy to grant me that permission. These items will be on display for library patrons in our display case next week before we move them into the archives.
I am proud of the librarians and technicians before me who were meticulous in preserving such a rich Mariner history and am honored to continue that tradition.
Please know that all yearbooks are available for in-library-viewing at your convenience. Feel free to visit, browse, and even take photos for your records.
We are all very lucky to be part of Mariner history.

Walkthrough Observations
Dear Staff,
This week, admin will continue to conduct our daily walkthroughs. To help facilitate the process we have decided to focus our classroom observation on one of the "Three things." Identifying and focusing on one strategy at a time will allow us to provide a collaborative opportunity for teachers and admin to address questions and support teaching and learning.
Feedback will be provided specifically on the focus item for that week. Admin has a created a rotating schedule to help us visit all classrooms throughout the week. We will do our best to get into the classrooms each week.
