Distance Learning Announcements and Updates, 1/15/21

A Message from Principal Ghereben

Greetings Proctor Community,

Happy Friday Everyone!

Here is the latest update from Superintendent Ahmadi in case you missed her email that was sent out to the community this week:

"Thank you for your patience while we all continue to navigate through challenges related to COVID. As you are already aware, on November 13th the dates of reopening schools in phases was approved by the Governing Board, with the first phase beginning on February 1st. Based on the County Department of Health guidelines, schools may reopen only after they have been in the red tier for a minimum of two weeks.

Since Alameda County is still in the purple tier, CVUSD’s first phase of reopening is delayed until Alameda County has been in the red tier for a minimum two (2) weeks. Rest assured, you will receive frequent updates and advanced confirmation on the exact reopening date. Reopening will occur in phases, meaning that our elementary schools will begin with two primary grades first and continue with additional grades added each week (Kinder, 1st, etc).

Although the reopening date has been delayed, our planning and preparation will continue so that families have time to make the necessary arrangements and we can be fully prepared in order to ensure a smooth transition. Information related to your child’s assignment and specific details on schedules, procedures, and protocols will be communicated to you by each site principal early next week.

Our Districts Roadmap to Reopening & Safety Plan was submitted to the County and on December 22nd, we received confirmation that our plan was complete. Currently, the Supplemental School Site Specific Reopening Plans have been uploaded to your school's website here. Please contact your school site if you have any questions regarding the site specific plans."

Week 3: Staying 6 ft. Apart

Here is this week's video packet and activity in preparation for returning to in-person instruction:

Week 3: Staying 6 Ft. Apart

All videos and resources will be posted on our school website each week for your reference, and your classroom teacher will also post it in their Google Classrooms.

I am requesting that every family review the information and help their child complete the weekly activity. This will ensure that our reopening is done safely, smoothly and consistently. Thank you in advance for your support.

Honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

Please take some time to share these video resources with your child/children. Let's make sure that we are striving to ensure that the stories, voices, and experiences of African-Americans are centered, honored, and uplifted in our school community and curricula every day.

Feelings Check-In with the Proctor Counselor

Here is the updated Counselor's Smore!

Have you heard the phrase "name it to tame it"? A foundational part of social emotional learning is developing a student's feelings vocabulary. When they can name how they feel, then they can begin to handle (tame) those feelings. Here is a feelings chart for you to use if you'd like to post it at home or use it to help your child continue to learn to identify their feelings. It's important to remember that all feelings are okay. We aren't always supposed to be happy or calm. Sometimes we are sad or jealous or angry. It then opens up the conversation that how we handle those feelings makes all the difference.

We will focus on informative tips on a different social emotional learning skill each trimester, and bring you up to date information on community resources throughout the year.
