Deforestation
By Chelsea Garber
How are global forests related to the gases in our atmosphere?
- Living trees remove CO2, decomposing trees add CO2 to the atmosphere
- Does not change the net atmospheric carbon
- Deforestation... net destruction of vegetation will contribute to the increase in atmospheric CO2
- Mass of carbon in the trees is added to atmosphere through combustion/decomposition
- Greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide
