Denied
She was trained by her husband, Gottfried Kirch, who was Prussia's foremost astronomer. She later became his assistant. When her husband died she applied to be an assistant astronomer at the Berlin Academy. She was qualified but, being a woman without a university degree, was denied.
Setting examples
Being a woman in the 1600s and 1700s, they weren't supposed to devoted to such things. Work annd studies like that should be for men. For women to perform these things was odd in the society and era they lived in.
