In-School Football Game

We will have our first in school football game on September 21st against Fletcher Middle. Students will be required to purchase a ticket in advance through GoFan.co. Students that have received a level 2 or higher referral will not be able to participate in the school wide event. If you are not sure if your child can participate in the positive behavior incentive event, please reach out to Dean Warner, warnerc1@duvalschools.org.

Unfortunately, due to COVID safety procedures, parents are NOT allowed to attend the game since it is during school hours. If tickets are purchased, they will not be reimbursed.

“Dads Take Your Child to School Day”

The Florida Department of Education is once again hosting their statewide initiative called “Dads Take Your Child to School Day” this Wednesday, September 22nd. The Dads Take Your Child to School Day initiative serves to highlight and support fatherhood engagement in education by helping schools foster this important connection with fathers and father figures. Research indicates engaging dads, brothers, uncles, father figures, other significant male role models, and male mentors, increases student success in numerous ways. Resources from the Florida Department of Education on fatherhood engagement and Dads Take Your Child to School Day can be found here: https://www.fldoe.org/schools/family-community/activities-programs/parental-involvement/dads.stml

COVID Updates

Face Covering Updates

Face Gaiters - The CDC has revised their guidance regarding the wearing of neck gaiters as a face covering. They are permitted as long as they have two layers or can be folded to make two layers. Schools should therefore allow students to wear neck gaiters as a face covering.

Over the Counter COVID Tests

The Florida Department of Health (DOH) has updated their guidance regarding COVID-19 testing. They will allow students identified as close contacts to return sooner from quarantine if they are asymptomatic and have a negative test on Day 5 or later of quarantine.

The only three over the counter tests that may be used when a student is asymptomatic and would like to return sooner from quarantine are the following:

Rapid Antigen

1. Ellume COVID-19 Home Test (parent should show you results from their app that has the student’s name on it)

Molecular Test

2. Lucira CHECK-IT COVID-19 Test kit

3. Cue COVID-19 Test for Home and Over the Counter Use

DOH will also accept any PCR test given by a provider or sent to a commercial laboratory or if the testing site uses one of the molecular tests indicated on the attached document. Other over the counter tests, such as BinaxNOW are not approved for asymptomatic use and should only be used for when the student is symptomatic. If the student chooses not to get tested, they may return at the end of their quarantine period as long as they remain asymptomatic.

DOH will accept positive results from all tests, including any over the counter test. Please have the parent or guardian provide a copy of the positive test results.

DOH will also allow students to return back to school if they were sent home with COVID-19 like symptoms if they have a negative test from the list of tests attached to this email under the symptomatic use column. Please see the attachments for more information.

Suspicious Activity Reporting App

Please review with your child our FortifyFL is a suspicious activity reporting tool that allows individuals to instantly relay information to appropriate law enforcement agencies and school officials. The app is located on their school laptop.
