Week of February 19-February 22, 2019

Tuesday is a RED DAY for specials.

WE ARE LOWELL

Our theme at Lowell this year is "We are Lowell...CORE is our Superpower!"--Civility, Order, Respect, Excellence. We are encouraging students to embrace this challenge and achieve them.

NO SCHOOL MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18TH

There is NO SCHOOL on Monday, February 18th due to President's Day. We will see everyone back on Tuesday, February 19th!

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Lowell Families,

Thank you to our PTA and to all of our parents who made our Valentine’s Parties a success! The students had so much fun, and it was great see so many of you in the building with your children!

Our Kindness and Justice Challenge is in its last two weeks! Students continue to demonstrate acts of kindness and earn kindness masks. We are so proud of all of their efforts in spreading kindness! Our Penny War is still going on so students can continue to bring in coins to participate. Next Friday is crazy socks and/or sunglasses day. If students donate $1.00 to the K & J Challenge, they can come to school with crazy socks and/or wear sunglasses during the school day. We hope many of our students will participate. Remember, all money raised goes to our three charities: Warren Early Childhood Center, Riley Hospital for Children, and American Heart Association. Thank you for all of your support!!

Our Math Bowl Team will be competing in the district Math Bowl Competition next Thursday, February 21 at 5:00pm at Brookview Elementary. We wish them the best of luck and know they will make us proud!

Our 3rd Graders will take the IREAD-3 Assessment during the week of March 11- 15. This is a critical statewide standardized assessment. Teachers have been working with students throughout the year on critical reading skills and will continue to do so as a means to help best prepare students for this assessment. Please mark these dates on your calendar as it is most important for all students to be in attendance and on time to school this week. For further information on IREAD-3 you may visit the IDOE website at https://www.doe.in.gov/assessment/iread-3

Tonight is Movie Night in the gym; we are showing Incredibles 2. Doors open at 5:30pm and the movie starts at 6:00pm. Concessions will be available for purchase. Bring a blanket and/or lawn chairs for the gym. Hope to see many of you this evening!

Just a reminder that we do not have school on Monday, February 18, 2019 due to President’s Day. Have a great weekend!

It's Time to Show our Superpower of Kindness!

It's time to make the kindness connection! The National Kindness and Justice Challenge is a celebration of the life and works of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Lowell students began the 15th annual Kindness and Justice Challenge last week. They continue to participate in activities that build an understanding of how simple acts of kindness and justice make a tremendous impact on our community and our world.

For the next several weeks, Lowell students will create "Superhero Capes" to be displayed in our hallways. Students will be encouraged to think about how we treat one another and how we must work together to make this world a better place for everyone. When a student shows an act of kindness, they get a kindness mask to hang on their grade level cape. It is great to see masks being added to our capes! We are Lowell...to the CORE ~~ students spreading kindness like it’s confetti! Keep up the great work!

During the months of January and February, students can bring in money for our Penny War to donate toward the Early Childhood Center in Warren Township, American Heart Association, and Riley Hospital. Students may bring in pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters, and bills.

One Way all parents can help is by simply enforcing and encouraging the demonstration of kind and just acts at home! Thank you for teaching the valuable lessons of kindness and justice through your own example and support. These will be a part of your child's life forever just as your child will always be somebody special to us!
