This Week at St. Stan's
Here is a look at what to expect for this coming week:
Specials Classes
Starting on Monday, several of our special class options will begin. All students will begin taking Fine Arts, Physical Education, and Media & Technology.
Monday & Wednesday - Informal Uniforms
Students should be in their "informal uniforms" for both Monday and Wednesday. This means (at the minimum) a red polo shirt and black dress pants/shorts for boys and the approved jumper or red polo/skirt combo for girls.
Tuesday & Thursday - Physical Education Uniforms
Since all students will be taking Physical Education on Tuesdays and Thursdays, they will be expected to come to school in their "gym uniform." Any plain, red t-shirt and black athletic shorts are acceptable as a part of this uniform for this year. Students may also wear black sweatpants if they wish.
Friday - First All School Mass
Beginning at 8:30am on Friday, we will have our first all school Mass over at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish. Students should dress in their "formal uniform" on all Fridays. Parents are welcome to participate in the Mass if they wish.
Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures
Things will look similar to last week in terms of drop-off in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon. Pre-K through 2nd grade students will gather with their teachers on the west side of the building (closest to Noble Street) and 3rd through 8th grade students will gather on the north side (closest to the playground). When picking up you children, please look for them in these same locations at the end of the school day.
Gentle Reminders
Covid-19 Protocols
I want to take a minute to remind families of our collective responsibility to help keep one another safe during these uncertain times. I ask that families continue to follow the guidance of the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Catholic Schools when it comes to Covd-19 protocols. This means that masks must be worn by anyone who enters the school building and that proper home to school communication be timely and clear.- We ask that if someone in your household or if your child tests positive for Covid-19, that you inform the school immediately.
- We ask that if your child is experiencing any symptoms (especially fever, cough, and sinus issues) that you keep them at home until the symptoms subside or until you receive a negative Covid-19 test.
- We ask that if your child is unvaccinated and travels to an "orange state" that your child either receives a negative Covid-19 test or quarantines for 10 days prior to returning to school.
- We ask for your continued caution outside of school as well as inside of it. The only way we will be able to have a successful and safe school year is if parents, students, and teachers do what they can to protect one another.
Water Bottles
Please be sure that your child has a refillable water bottle at school each day. Our drinking fountains are turned on, but students should only be using them to fill up their own bottles. It is preferable that water bottles have a student's name clearly marked or are distinguishable in some way to that student, so that there are no mix-ups and bottles can be returned to their rightful owner.
Cell Phones & Electronic Devics
Students should generally have no need for cell phones during the school day. Should they have them, however, the phones are to be off and in a student's locker or backpack. Under no circumstances should a student be using their cell phone unless directed to by a teacher or school staff member. If parents need to contact their child during the school day, they should call or email the school's main office and the message will be relayed to the student when appropriate.
Aftercare Options
What's the Same?
Aftercare will be provided beginning Monday, August 23. Students will be looked after from the end of the school day until 6:00pm and will be provided one snack. The cost for these services is $5 per hour.
In order to utilize these services, families must sign-up and pay for them the week prior. To do this, please click on this link to the MyProcare App. On this website, you will arrange your hours and payments.
If you are not already in the system, you will need to contact our office at office@ststanschicago.org so that we can get your email attached to the St. Stan's account. You cannot participate in the Extended Day Program until this process is complete.
What's New?
In order to make our Extended Day Program more robust and to provide a thoroughly educational experience, St. Stan's Academy is teaming up with i-Cook After School to provide some unique options for students.
On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of each week, students will have the option to sign-up for a Cooking class, a Coding class, and a STEAM class through i-Cook After School. There is an additional fee that comes with each class and classes will go until Christmas break. The classes will go from 3:30pm to 4:30pm are generally open to Kindergarten through 5th grade students.
A registration link for i-STEAM will be forthcoming, but if you are interested in signing up for the i-Cook and i-Code programs, please use the links below:
- iCook registration: https://www.icookafterschool.com/events/st-stanislaus-kostka
- iCode registration: https://www.icodeafterschool.com/events/st-stanislaus-kostka-academy
Should you want your child to participate in one or all of these programs, you will not have to pay the $5/hour aftercare fee for the 1 hour they are with i-Cook After School. Please be sure to indicate this on your Procare account when you sign-up for hours of aftercare coverage. The i-Cook, i-Code, and i-STEAM programming will not begin until the week of August 30.
