From the Desk of Mr. Ruedinger
As we finish up our third week of school, I am excited and thankful for the wonderful beginning of this school year. The students are getting back into school and classroom routines which allow for effective instruction throughout the day and I'm sure there are new routines at home that enable quiet reading and study time. Next week, students in grades K-8 will be taking the Map tests and their scores will be coming home soon after.
The CCA Calendar Raffles for 2020 will be in next week's carrier along with incentive information.
Unfortunately, the CCA Volleyball Tournament scheduled for September 20 & 21 has been cancelled due to not enough teams participating.
We have added a new "Parenting in the 21st Century" section. This section will include professional resources that I have come across in my professional development that might assist parents as they raise children. Hopefully, these will come in handy for your family.
The busing on Wednesdays will be delayed. The bus will pick up students from CCA at 3:15 pm even though the early dismissal is at 2:20 pm. Students taking the bus will be supervised in the resource center. Please plan accordingly.
No Carrier this week.
Parenting in the 21st Century
One of the most challenging skills to teach in school is the ability to write effectively. These skills take time and effort to develop and require patience and dedication to master. But the benefits derived later on in school, and in life, enhances the chances for success. A former student, who went on to attend MIT for college, once told me that he felt the key to his success in high school and college was learning how to write in middle school.
What Makes Writing So Important?
- Writing is the primary basis upon which your work, your learning, and your intellect will be judged—in college, in the workplace, and in the community.
- Writing expresses who you are as a person.
- Writing is portable and permanent. It makes your thinking visible.
- Writing helps you move easily among facts, inferences, and opinions without getting confused—and without confusing your reader.
- Writing promotes your ability to pose worthwhile questions.
- Writing fosters your ability to explain a complex position to readers, and to yourself.
- Writing helps others give you feedback.
- Writing helps you refine your ideas when you give others feedback.
- Writing requires that you anticipate your readers’ needs. Your ability to do so demonstrates your intellectual flexibility and maturity.
- Writing ideas down preserves them so that you can reflect upon them later.
- Writing out your ideas permits you to evaluate the adequacy of your argument.
- Writing stimulates you to extend a line of thought beyond your first impressions or gut responses.
- Writing helps you understand how truth is established in a given discipline.
- Writing equips you with the communication and thinking skills you need to participate effectively in democracy.
- Writing is an essential job skill.

MAP TESTING
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing for grades K - 8 will be held the week of September 23. MAP is a computerized adaptive test which helps teachers, parents, and administrators improve learning for all students and make informed decisions to promote a child’s academic growth. All students in grades K-8 will be tested to track their academic growth. Please do not schedule any appointments for your children during this time. It is important that the students are in attendance and well-rested, so they can do their best on the tests. Thank you for your cooperation.
Picture Day
Mark your calendar; Picture Day is Thursday, September 26. Harmann Studios will be taking your child’s picture (no order form or money needed at that time). Harmann sends home a preview of two proofs; you choose one and return the order form with your payment. If need be, picture retake day is Wednesday, October 30.
Accreditation Self-Study Update
BINGO
This school year we will run 8 regular Bingo Sessions and 1 SPECIAL HOLIDAY Bingo Session.
Each family will be responsible to work one regular bingo session, donate to one regular bingo session and participate in some way for the SPECIAL HOLIDAY Bingo Session.
Each grade will be assigned the session that they are to work and donate. You will then have the opportunity to choose the time slot or donation item of your choice. All slots must be filled by September 15th, 2019. If at that time, you have not signed up or have not volunteered in other areas, you might be assigned a slot for bingo. Remember that volunteers need to be 18 years or older and can be members of your family or friends.
We are looking to have 100% of our CCA families volunteer at CCA this year!

Safeguarding All God's Family
If parents or grandparents plan to participate in field trips, work in the lunchroom, coach, or help out at school, you must attend a Safeguarding All God’s Family training through the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.
