A Bedminster Bobcat T.A.K.E.S.P.R.I.D.E.
At Bedminster Elementary school, we have been busy learning about the character trait of acceptance. All grades participated in direct instruction, group discussion, and a chance to apply what they learned to their own life. In addition, students listened to examples of acceptance shared by students during the morning announcements.
During the week of October 23, 2017, we celebrated Character Counts Week. Our theme was Kindness Counts, Kindness Starts with Me. Our T.A.K.E.S.P.R.I.D.E. Assembly recognized the students who consistently demonstrate the character trait of acceptance.
Thank you to all of the parents and special people who joined us for this fun event. Our Clubhouse Kids introduced two fundraisers during the assembly. We collected change and sold glow in the dark kindness bracelets to raise funds to support children who were victims of the hurricanes. Thank you to everyone who demonstrated an act kindness and participated in the fundraisers!

Did you know kindness can be taught? Did you know kindness is contagious? Check out www.randomactsofkindness.org to read some interesting scientific facts about kindness. During the month of November, Bedminster’s T.A.K.E.S.P.R.I.D.E. theme is Kindness. Here are some ways kids can show kindness at school. Review this list with your children, ask them to check off acts of kindness they do. Remember your acts of kindness count!
Toward the bus driver
o Say “Good morning” when you get on the bus. Say “Thank you" when you get off the bus.
o Be quiet so the bus driver can concentrate.
o Try whispering to a friend instead of yelling.
o Sit in your seat, facing the right direction.
Toward the custodians
o Keep your belongings off the floor.
o Flush and don’t clog the toilet.
o Make a card or poster saying “Thanks.”
Toward teachers and other adults who work in the school
o Give them a smile.
o Say “Hello.”
o Come to school prepared.
o Listen to the directions the first time.
o Laugh when they make jokes.
Toward other kids
o Play with someone who needs a friend.
o Treat others the way you want to be treated.
o Share.
o Stand up for your classmates.
o Help someone who needs it.
Library News from Mr. Romito
Reading Olympics
Children in grades 4 and 5 who enjoy reading, teamwork, and having fun should become part of our Reading Olympics teams. Reading Olympics is a county-wide celebration of reading with a culminating event to be held in the spring. We will hold informal meetings and practices until January when we will ask for firm commitments and form teams. If your child is expressing an interest, look for a letter to go home shortly with more information. Anyone with questions about Reading Olympics may contact Mr. Romito (215.795.2929 x532501; mromito@pennridge.org) or come into the library during conferences. Parent support is greatly appreciated. More information, including the list of books can be found on the Bedminster Library website (tinyurl.com/Bed-Lib).
Book Bash
This year children in third grade have an opportunity to participate in a Reading Olympics style event. Mrs. Mulloy, librarian at Grasse and Seylar, has organized this event for any interested schools in Pennridge only. It will be on a much smaller scale than the county Reading Olympics event, but a wonderful opportunity for our third-graders. More information will be available shortly.
Book Fair
We would like to thank Mrs. Walter for organizing another successful Book Fair and all her volunteers who made this possible. Not only did the children enjoy this event, but our library was able to acquire books through this fundraiser. We also thank all the families who supported our Book Fair.
