Awesome Sycamore Staff
Wow.. a quarter in the books. Where does the time go? Please know how grateful I am for your amazing work with students to begin the year. Your positive relationships with students lay an incredible foundation for the academic work you do with each of them.
Moving into the fall of the year, we continue to examine our Master Facility Plan options for the future of our schools. We are on pace to determine 3 - 4 options to present to the community for concept testing after the first of the year. This concept testing will involve multiple engagement sessions throughout the community to gather feedback on the options being considered. As I have shared at all my listening sessions to this point, these options involve potential replacement of the JH and EHG in some form, with renovations to SHS and upgrading of our elementary schools. Once we begin this concept testing phase, you have my commitment to engage you for your feedback. Stay tuned and more to come.
I realize that the next couple of weeks involve conferencing with parents regarding the progress of their children. You fully grasp the importance of partnering with parents in the interest of meaningful progress for their children. Thank you for your open and honest communication with parents as we work for a common goal: students.
As you continue to do your stellar work with students, I am reminded of your impact by this quote:
“Teachers, I believe, are the most responsible and important members of society because their professional efforts affect the fate of the earth.” ― Helen Caldicott
A truly meaningful statement that applies to every staff member in the Sycamore Family. I was reminded of this as I recently stood before 19 National Merit Semifinalists at SHS and talked with them about this moment of accomplishment and the countless people who have had a positive effect on their successful educational journey. Know your impact is profound and lasting; and as your colleague, I am eternally grateful for all your impact on our students.
Have a wonderful weekend. I am proud of you. #SycamoreStrong

Mandatory Open Enrollment!
Mandatory Online Open Enrollment for health and dental insurance for ALL employees will take place November 1 - November 14, 2018. You will soon be receiving emails with important information regarding this process.
Over the upcoming weeks, we will conduct brief presentations at each building to guide you through the open enrollment process. The schedule for each building is below. If you cannot attend your building’s session, please feel free to attend at another building or the District Office session. These sessions will last no longer than 30 minutes.
Life Insurance - Updates Needed?
As you may recall, when your employment began with Sycamore Community Schools, you completed an enrollment form for a free life insurance policy through Sun Life. The policy for most employees is the equivalent of your annual salary (or a minimum of $15,000 for part-time employees). This is a free policy provided to Sycamore employees by the Board of Education.
Part of the form that you completed included primary and secondary beneficiary information. We recognize that over the course of time this beneficiary information might have changed. As a result, we are providing you the opportunity to re-submit your enrollment form to provide updated, accurate information if necessary.
What to do:
1. If you do not want to make any changes you do not have to do anything!
2. If you want to make changes, simply complete the attached enrollment form and pony it back to Brian Wallace/HR.
See form here
Please note, that due to the potential large volume of requests, we will not be able to review everyone's files to inform you what is currently on your enrollment form. If you believe updates need to be made, please fill out the attached form and send it back.
