What we're learning this week...
Phonics: Y as a vowel (long i and long e sounds)
Book: The Name Jar by Yangsook Choi
Reading Strategies: Making a prediction, retelling the story, making an inference, understanding the author's purpose
Math: Addition and subtraction word problems, 2D and 3D shapes, numbers to 100, number handwriting practice, fluency of addition and subtraction within 10, partners of 10 (how to make 10)
Writing: Using a graphic organizer to organize our thinking and plan our writing, informational writing: animal research projects, letter formation (handwriting practice), 5 star writing rubric (finger spaces, proper punctuation, capital letters at the beginning of the sentence, spelling sight words correctly, does my writing make sense?)
Social Studies: American Legend: Booker T. Washington
Science: Mystery Science: Force Olympics
Religion: Jesus is our Good Shepherd, Parish as a community of caring, following Jesus, caring for Creation, Good Shepherd Prayer, Psalm 23
Social Skills: Following directions and working with others
Virtue: Stewardship
Social and Emotional Learning: solving problems: children discuss the last two steps in solving problems (think, try), practice generating solutions to problems presented in scenarios, and then problem solve with a peer during collaborative play.
