Your Weekly Update from Johnson Elementary School
Principal's Message
Dear Johnson Families,
On behalf of our entire Johnson faculty and staff, we wish you and your family a truly wonderful holiday season filled with peace, joy, and love. Happy New Year 2023!
Warmest regards,
John
If your student tests positive for Covid-19, they must stay home for 5 days. The day they started symptoms is Day 0, the next day is Day 1, then Day 2, etc. They may return to school on Day 6 and must wear a mask for an additional 5 days. A headache, scratchy throat, congestion/runny nose, cough, and/or fever are some of the more common symptoms of Covid-19.
Siblings and close contacts do not need to quarantine and can come to school as long as they are not having symptoms of illness. However, they must wear a mask for 10 days when around others following a Covid exposure.

FOUR Things You Need to Know!
1 - COVID Test Kit Distribution
Last Friday your student should have received a COVID Test Kit. Students should take a test prior to returning to school on January 3rd. If students test positive on that day, they should remain home from school and go through COVID protocols. This is a tool to help staff and families stay safe through personal responsibility. It is not mandatory, however we strongly advise students to take them to ensure they are staying healthy.
Please note the expiration date on the test reads July 2022, that is incorrect. The date is extended to July 2023. Attached is the statement from the FDA granting an extension of the expiration date.
2 - The cold winter weather is HERE! Please make sure your children are dressed appropriately for these cold days. In addition, remind your children to check the lost and found if they have left something behind.
3 - REMINDER FOR PARENTS WHO WANT TO VOLUNTEER - Volunteer--CORI Checks
If you want to volunteer in schools, you must have a CORI check conducted and you must go into the building with identification (drivers license or passport) to do this. Click here for description of what a CORI check is and does. Without a CORI check, you cannot volunteer in the school. Here is the form to fill out for a CORI.
4 - FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
We have a range of financial supports available in the Natick Public Schools. This includes assistance with school fees, such as the bus and picture day, scholarships for programs such as the Book Fair and connections to community resources that may be helpful. If you are interested in these programs, please contact Laura Loftus, our school counselors, to have a private conversation. Her email is lloftus@natickps.org.
HELP WANTED FOR JOHNSON'S YEARBOOK
The Johnson 2022-23 yearbook is going to be a community-wide effort again. We need folks to collect content and we need a committee to pull it all together.
Will you take pictures or help organize them? Super! Do you want to work with Coffee Pond’s design software to actually assemble the yearbook? Awesome! Drop an email to annehunsicker@gmail.com so we can assemble the world’s greatest yearbook team.
If you’ve already got some photos you’d like to submit, please send them to annehunsicker@gmail.com with “Yearbook – name of event” in the subject line.
