Lenape M. S. Smoke Signals
October 14, 2013
Dear Lenape Families and Friends,
We would like to thank everyone who supported our magazine fundraiser and the parents who helped us on collection days. Our gross sales were over $33,000 (not counting the sales currently being generated by the “postcard” campaign.) Lenape earns 40% of the sales. We will use the money for school and team initiatives, trips, and supplies.
Cookie dough pickup is scheduled for Wednesday, October 23rd in the Lenape cafeteria from 4:00-6:00 P.M. Please drive to the back of the buiding and go in the cafeteria doors.
School Photo Retake Day
Our school picture re-take day is Tuesday, October 22nd. If your son or daughter did not have their picture taken on the original day in September, they should plan to do this next Tuesday. Even if you do not wish to purchase pictures, a photo should be taken for their school ID card. (They use this card for checking out books in the library, among other things.) If you would like to have your son or daughter’s picture re-taken, this will be done at no charge if they return their complete, original photo package to the photographer. You can download a picture order form here.
Free Heart Screenings and Simon's Fund
We are very excited to inform you about a unique opportunity that is available to our students. Simon's Fund, a local nonprofit organization, will provide free heart screenings for all students in Central Bucks, ages 10-19, from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. on October 20th at Central Bucks High School South.
Simon's Fund (www.simonsfund.org) was established in 2005, in memory of Simon Sudman, the three-month old son of Phyllis and Darren. Simon died of a heart arrhythmia that causes sudden cardiac arrest and death. It is just one of several heart conditions that takes the lives of thousands of children every year. Sudden cardiac arrest is the #1 cause of death of student athletes.
Simon's Fund works with most of the medical institutions in the Greater Philadelphia area. They have screened thousands of students and discovered that one out of every 100 students screened has some kind of undetected heart condition.
The screening consists of the following: a medical history form, a physical exam, an electrocardiogram (EKG) exam, and if necessary, an echocardiogram (Echo). This type of screening is not the standard of care so it is most likely not available through your doctor.
In order for your child to participate in this screening, you will need to register at www.simonsfund.org and complete a medical history and consent form. Online registration is now open. A parent or legal guardian must be present at the screening on October 20th. The screening process takes approximately 30 minutes.
We hope that you will take advantage of this special opportunity. If you have any questions about the screening, please contact Darren Sudman at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610.662.6948.
