4th Six Weeks School Year 2016-2017
Garcia wins Battle of the Bluebonnet Books!
Congratulations to our team for winning 1st Place in the Battle of the Bluebonnet books.
Our team members are: David Fernandez, Benjamin Foreman and Eladio Zamora.
The team was honored by the PSJA ISD Board on February 27, 2017.
Thank you Ms. Galvan and the PSJA Education Foundation for the beautiful plaques and prizes.

Bring Your Own Device
Students who have met their AR Goals have been rewarded with a Bring Your Own Device Party. Each student had a chance to connect to the internet and do the activities of their choice using varied apps.
Bluebonnet Voting Day
105 Third to Fifth Grade students at Garcia Elementary voted online for their favorite Bluebonnet book. Students need to read 5 books in order to qualify to vote. The book "Hamster Princess: Harriet the Invincible" had the most votes.
Librarian- Teacher Collaboration for Units of Study
Poetry and Technology
2nd Grade students are working on their IB Planner on "How We Express Ourselves". In this unit of study, students learned about poetry. In the library, students explored different types of poetry, read poetry books and created poetry using technology. Students used the app called LARK to create poetry through images provided.
Pic Collage to Present Important Facts on Countries studied
Kinder and 1st Grade students presented important facts about the country they have studied through Pic Collage. While using this application, students were trained to use the photos from Britannica Image Quest thru MackinVia. Students applied their skills on how to search pictures, save them and format them correctly. They also have learned to collaborate with each other and decide on the important facts that they would present on their collage.
4th Grade : "Sharing the Planet"
4th Grade students are currently working on their IB Planner " Sharing the Planet". In this unit of study,students will inquire and explore how habitats are conserved, what animals have been endangered and what necessary steps and plan of action they will take to become caring individuals. In order to create a plan of action that is practical and attainable, students need to research on these animals,their habitats, destruction and conservation strategies. Students used the various instructional resources provided thru MackinVia. Students also learned how to CITE information.
Chatter Pix
Mrs. Anna Guzman's class studied about animals. They were given a guided activity to use Chatter Pix to say facts about a particular animal. The students learned to decide which animal they would discuss, say the facts orally and learned how to navigate the application.
Family Reading Time
Families come to the library every other Tuesday to read together.
