The safety and welfare of our students and staff are our highest priority at Murphy Middle School. We practice safety drills throughout the year to help our students know what to do in an emergency. Each month our school will conduct one fire drill. This month we will also conduct an “unannounced” lockdown drill. Students will hear over the intercom that the lockdown will be a drill. The only difference is that the campus will not know the specific date of the drill in advance.
These practice drills allow us to evaluate our emergency operation plans and improve our response skills. This announcement serves as notification that each PISD campus will be conducting these drills for the safety of our students. The dates and times of drills will not be announced to the community at large. You would only be notified if there were a real emergency.

Athletics News- Basketball Tryouts
If your 7th or 8th grade student is interested in trying out for basketball they must have their physical and medical history turned in as well as have all of their UIL rank one forms completed on-line. If you have any questions about paperwork please e-mail Coach Ragsdale at Travis.email@example.com
We will have an informational meeting about basketball try outs for the students. During this meeting we will go over all the paper work, what try outs will look like, and talk about the try out dates and times. Any 7th or 8th grade student trying out for basketball needs to be at this meeting. If you can not attend the meeting please see Coach Ragsdale by the end of the day for information that you may of missed. The girls basketball information will be at 8:00 am on Wednesday morning October 18th. The boys informational meeting will be at 8:00 am on Tuesday October 24th. Both meetings will be held in the big gym. This meeting is for the students but parents are welcome to come hear the information as well. All parents must sign in at the front office before coming down to the gym.
Murphy Middle School
Homework Hot Spot
On Wednesday, October 11, we will kick off Murphy’s Homework Hot Spot. We created this area because we want students to have a teacher supervised area where they have teacher assistance, peer assistance (provided by a combination of McMillen and Murphy NJHS students), or simply a quiet place to finish up homework before their day begins.
The Homework Hot Spot (HHS) is available every Tuesday and Wednesday morning from 7:50 – 8:20 in D- 111. Because we want this area to be structured and organized, we will be limiting the number of peer tutors – as well as the number of students coming in for assistance. We anticipate the ability to house about 10 tutors and 30 students for the HHS. We want our parents to know that this service is about to come on line. The HHS is not a replacement for teacher-led, subject-specific tutorials, but it is another way for students to ensure their success. Please encourage your child to utilize this additional layer of academic support whenever they’re feeling stressed or unsure.
If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Feil at firstname.lastname@example.org or 469-752-7050.
