How And Why Did It Happen?
- BP engineers had concerns as early as 2009 that the metal casing BP wanted to use might collapse under high pressure(collapsed under high pressure)(how).
- the blowout preventer was damaged in a previously unreported accident in late March 2010(why).
Fish
massive number of fish have been harmed in this oil spill.
Birds
more than 82,000 birds were harmed or killed in this action.
Other Marine Life
about 6,000 sea turtles; nearly 26,000 marine mammals, including dolphins have also been harmed or killed.
