News from Mrs. Mankin
Dear Bulldog Families,
As we prepare to return to school in our hybrid/50-50 model, we are following our HSE Operations Plan as well as our more specific New Britton Operations Guide to ensure the health and safety of staff and students at school. We would like to highlight some important health information for families.
The Indiana Health Department has recently updated the COVID-19 symptoms list. Please refer to this list when determining whether your student can attend school. Do not send your child(ren) to school if he/she is exhibiting any of these symptoms. Contact your healthcare provider and seek guidance on whether to proceed with seeking an alternative diagnosis (non-COVID 19), seeking COVID-19 testing, or proceeding with an isolation period. This is the same list our school nurse, Mrs. Cernero, will use when determining if a student may need to go home from school.
- Fever > 100.4
- New, uncontrolled cough (causing breathing difficulty)
- Shortness of breath/difficulty breathing
- Sore throat
- New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
- Loss of smell/taste
- Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
When will my child be sent home from school?
If any child displays any of the above symptoms, (from the Indiana State Department of Health) while at school, the school nurse will assess the student. The school nurse will collaborate with parents and healthcare providers, when necessary, to make reasonable decisions on the dismissal of students from their school day. (Please note: Some conditions MUST dictate exclusion, i.e. fever).
Other things to consider if you child(ren) show COVID-19 symptoms:
Was your family/child(ren) in close contact (within 6 feet for more than 15 minutes) with a CONFIRMED COVID 19 positive person?
- If yes, and your child(ren) is symptomatic and a close contact, begin isolation and contact your healthcare provider.
- Your healthcare provider can collaborate on seeking an alternative diagnosis (non-COVID 19), seeking COVID 19 testing, or continuing with an isolation period.
The links below contain additional information regarding symptoms and steps to take.
We understand that this is a stressful time for every member of our school community. Please know that we will partner with you to decrease any chance of stress or worry that may arise for you and/or your children. As always, thank you for your continued support!
Sincerely,
Lori Mankin, Principal

School Car Rider Drop-off/ Pick-up Procedures
New Britton Elementary
School Car Rider Drop-off/Pick-up Procedures
The following procedures are intended for the safety of your children. Thank you for helping keep all our students safe.
School car rider drop off begins at 9:35 AM, after 9:45 you will need to park and walk your child into the front office at Door 1. During the first couple weeks of school, we will allow for more time at car drop off.
- Please follow the green line around the east side of the school. Continue back to the front near door #2 & #3.
- Please pull your car up to the first set of cones to keep the flow of traffic moving.
- Please ensure your child exits the vehicle on the curbside right next to the sidewalk. Exiting the car to left/onto the parking lot is dangerous. Car seats/booster seats may need moved.
- Children should be able to open the door themselves (teachers/staff will assist if struggling, but independence is the goal).
- Never bypass a car in the drop-off/pick-up line. You must remain in your spot so as to ensure safety for students and staff.
Car riders will be released from class at 3:10 PM.
- Please follow the green line around the east side of the school. Continue back to the front near door #2 & #3.
- There will be a staff member asking for your ‘FastLane’ number. This number is provided through our dismissal system “School Dismissal Manager”. Please call the office if you do not have a ‘FastLane’ number.
- This number will be sent inside the building for your student to be dismissed.
- Please pull up to receive your student.
- Please do not pull away until the vehicle in front of you has pulled away.

Related Arts Change with Virtual Learning
Starting next week (Phase 2), Related Arts classes will change from daily rotation to a weekly rotation. Students will have the same Related Arts class Monday through Friday. Students attending 100% virtual will have self-paced lessons and assignments on Canvas*. Students attending 50% virtual/50% on-site will attend Related Arts classes in person on the days they are at school and will go to the virtual instruction page for their assigned Related Arts course on the days that they are virtual. Any student on-site may be asked to bring their iPad to Related Arts class.
*Miss Coffman, will soon send specific directions for Global Studies. Please check out her video.*
To access any Related Arts virtual lesson, sign into Canvas via hseschools.org using Google Chrome (Do not use the Canvas app), click on dashboard, select course card for the Related Arts class assigned for the week, click on “virtual instruction” and follow the directions given by the Related Arts teacher.

Virtual Enrichment Opportunities
