January 2024
Letter from the Principal
I hope your winter break was restful and you enjoyed the holiday season. The New Year is a fresh start. It's always possible to set new goals. Children as early as kindergarten love the opportunity to demonstrate responsibility and hold routines. It can be as simple as putting away their toys, helping to pack their snacks for the day, or organizing their snow gear for school the following day.
Students are getting ready for cross-country skiing during PE; please help your children have their winter gear. This is necessary to enjoy Alaska's winters. We want our children to have pleasant experiences while spending time outdoors. The snow can also be troublesome for our cars during pick-up.
- Be Patient we all have somewhere to be at the end of the day, and we want you to get to your destination safely
- Using handheld devices like cell phones is illegal in school zones. This means in our parking lot and in between the flashing lights near Spring Hill and Hanshew Middle School.
- The driving speed is 5 MPH at pick-up
- Use the crosswalks
- Pull forward as far as possible, never back up your vehicle
If there is a concern with another driver, please bring it to the office's attention, and we will address it. Our children watch how we, as adults, navigate conflict and stressful situations. When driving into and out of Spring Hill there is only one way in, and one way out. Please be patient and be prepared to wait. Thanks for your support in keeping pick-up lines safe in winter weather.
Lastly, Spring Conferences are only a month away! Please help your child keep tabs on their assignments through the parent portal. Intermediate students can also check their own grades and assignments through Student Connection.
May your 2024 be filled with joy,
Lena Brower
Principal

Internet Assistance: Affordable Connectivity Program
The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) is a federal program that offers financial relief for internet services to eligible households. Eligibility is determined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the criteria they have determined. Both ACS and GCI are participating in this program. ASD has created guidance on the application process along with links to both local internet providers who are participating. ASD does not control the decision of eligibility from the FCC or the participating internet service providers.
