News From the Nest
Week of April 12- April 16, 2021
Message from Principal Honohan
APS Families,
It all started with a student's idea to educate others about the importance of coral reefs and the care of oceans ....and now, this week, it's all culminating on Friday as our APS Coral Reef tank is unveiled.
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who have put so much time and effort into making "Tristan's Tank" a reality. Ms. Kelly Roberts, 2nd-grade teacher, and resident animal-guru guided 8th grader Tristan in developing his idea to fruition. Her passion for teaching students and giving them hands-on learning experiences is a true asset to APSK8.
I'd also like to spotlight partner Worldwide Corals whose partnership and expertise have assisted us in the installation and care of this one-of-a-kind tank. Their Winter Park store is located nearby and WP store manager Tommy Lechanski has been instrumental in guiding us along the way as we begin this new adventure.
As our students attend the unveiling this week, they will bring home information on how all of our families can be involved in this new educational program. I can't wait to see this program grow and be an example to more students who want to bring their ideas to life.
4th grade Writing Olympics
Congratulations to over 200 students who completed The Spring Break Challenge! They were rewarded with Kelly’s Ice Cream on Friday.
THANK YOU FROM APS TEACHERS & STAFF
THANK YOU FALCON FUND DONORS!
TESTING SEASON IS UPON US!
Our students had a very successful first FSA testing day this past Thursday with their first FSA for the year (FSA Writing). As a friendly reminder, FSA testing days are still instructional days and attendance is encouraged after the tests are complete. Teachers are working very hard to teach students across all content areas. After students complete their tests, they follow a modified schedule where they still attend each class where teachers provide instruction. Please see the schedule below for the rest of the testing calendar:
