Characteristic of a Successful Learner (CSL): Transfer Knowledge to New Situations
Bucket-Filling Trait: Honesty
It's a Marvelous Monday at JSE!
Outside trees are starting to bud and the grass is a little greener; however, inside our schoolhouse JSE Poetry Trees are in full bloom! We are celebrating poetry month in our classrooms and during library time. 1st graders gathered at a tea and snack poetry reading to enjoy poetry with Mrs. Bellovary.
JSE 4th/5th Grade Spelling Bee
Congratulations to 5th graders Edwin Hernandez and alternate, Aiden Hitchcock and 4th graders Jimmy Henry and alternate, Tony Kaster! They will represent JSE at the Porter County Spelling Bee April 30th. Great job to all the 4th and 5th graders who participated!
Bell to Bell and First day to Last Day Teaching: Our teachers continue to focus on academic standards; preparing students for next year right up to the very last day of school! Thank you for your continued reinforcement at home with homework, Math Facts, and AR goals! With the nice weather, we take time to remind our students to finish strong their last quarter! Progress reports come home April 30th.
End of Year Assessments: 3rd-5th grades will begin ISTEPs this Thursday, please see information below. K-2 will begin mClass assessments and K-5 STAR reading assessments will be administered. Upon completion, we will provide you a report of the results. Thank you for working together with us to support your child's progress.
Thank you for being partners in education,

Art Connect Hour
5th graders learned firsthand from experienced successful learners. Students were inspired to find an extra-curricular activity they enjoy and to work hard at it next year in Middle School.
ISTEP+ Part 2 Online
The new College and Career Readiness Indiana Academic Standards developed by the State this past year are strategically addressed in each classroom. Classroom teachers are diligently preparing students for the Part 2 online portion that will begin next Thursday, April 23rd and continue through May 8th. This portion of the ISTEP test will require critical thinking and application and include new response items with technology-embedded skills. Students will become familiar with these tools and items through instructional practice tests. As State Superintendent Ritz encouraged, please visit the IDOE website at this link: http://experience-ccra-in.ctb.com to view sample questions and try for yourself, the technology enhanced items.
We thank you for preparing your child by making sure they get the proper hours of rest each night and have a healthy breakfast each day. The assessments begin promptly each day. Daily attendance is paramount, please avoid absences and tardiness.
We encourage our students to do their personal best. We continue to focus on academic growth for all students and view ISTEPs as another source of information to guide future instruction and promote successful learners.
