Principal's Thoughts

Dear Page Hilltop Families:

We are getting ready for another wonderful week of kindness as the Great Kindness Challenge continues. We are so very proud of our school community for sharing so many acts of kindness over the last two weeks! KINDNESS is being spread throughout the school with kind words, kind acts and kind visual displays.

For this upcoming week we will focus on:

  • Kindness-themed stories that will be read in library classes all week.
  • Students will begin making kindness message paper chains.
  • PH families are encouraged to complete various acts of kindness from their "Family At-Home Edition Checklist".
  • PH families are also encouraged to make a kindness sign to display around their house or family vehicle and send a photo of it to Mr. Lutinski -

CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Crutchfield's first graders who have already fulfilled all of the kindness acts on their class checklist - well done!

Thank you, as always, for sharing your children with us!!

Fred Deppe, Principal

Matt Lutinski, Assistant Principal

  • Would you like to be a member of an all-star team?
  • Does your appetite crave some school cafe hot dogs, pizza, or spicy chicken sandwiches?
  • Do you want to see children's eyes light up as you enter their classroom?
  • Would you like to receive a special prize from our Panther Pride Shop?

Interested applicants must submit a copy of this application. Applicants, if hired, will need to complete a CORI in the main office and also be fingerprinted. Please email Fred Deppe, at if you have any questions.

We loved the message that came from our superintendent, Dr. Renda, when he announced last Friday's snow day. Dr. Renda encouraged all of our students to complete two family chores during the day. What a perfect message for Dr. Renda to share during kindness week! All PH students are welcome to share with us what they did, whenever they see us in the hallways, etc.

Mrs. Arsenault and Mrs. Bezerra's Classes: We received a shout-out from our favorite brain break site, UJU. We do their brain breaks all the time and love them!! Mrs. Bezzera's and Mrs. Arsenault's classes were so excited to see their class highlighted. Every time someone does this brain break they will see our names!!!! Congratulations to Ms. Fitzgerald's Class: For Groundhog Day on Wednesday, February 2nd, Ms. Fitzgerald and her students did a special groundhog craft. Students also made predictions on whether or not the groundhog would see his shadow.....6 more weeks of winter! These kindergarten students were the lucky winners of the Groundhog Day raffle contest!

The ASRSD has opted to participate in the new COVID testing option that provides families with 2 at-home COVID tests every other week. COVID tests will go home with students every other week and they should test at home on Tuesday afternoons. Parents/guardians should report positive cases only using the district reporting form.

This new testing option will be implemented on Tuesday, February 8th for staff, and Tuesday, February 15th for students.

To opt into this new testing program you must opt-in again using the link to this Google Form -- CLICK HERE

Please refer to the ASRSD Weekly Update that was emailed out on Monday, January 31st for more details.

Our school nurses have worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to make sure our school is as safe as possible. To show our appreciation, our wonderful PTO made our school nurses, Nurse Naughton and Nurse Barter these special Page Hilltop t-shirts. Thank you, Nurse Naughton and Nurse Barter for all your hard work. The Page Hilltop Community appreciates everything you do to keep us safe!

Our awesome & kind art teacher, Heidi Cowley, has done it again!! She has transformed the display cabinet, which is just outside the cafeteria, into a large and colorful message of kindness. Children will see this visual message of kindness each day they enter the cafe for breakfast or lunch. First Grade Teacher Rachel McKillop can be seen admiring this display.

100th Day of School

Our 100th Day of School will take place on Wednesday, February 9th, 2022. This date has been pushed out one day to reflect the snow day we had on Friday, February 4th. In next week's edition of the SMORES we will be posting pictures of our students and staff involved in various 100 Day activities.

One activity will be to see if we can come up with 100 compliments or kind words / phrases to say to others. Please consider discussing this as a family and having your child write down some of these ideas to bring to school on Wednesday.

On January 31st we concluded of socks collection. PH families and staff have been sending in donations of new socks to be shared with PH students in need. Our school nurses are also keeping some of the socks for when they need to swap off "wet" socks for "dry" socks. We will also be donating many of the socks we collected to local shelters.

We set a school goal of collecting 500 pairs of socks. As they always do, our PH school community came out with an amazing showing of kindness and generosity. Some of our 4th and 5th graders spent recess times tallying all of the socks we collected. This was a good exercise in math as they added up the pairs of socks.

Our final count was 1,167 pairs of socks! Thank you so much, Page Hilltop School community!

While we were collecting all of these socks the past month, we also had a contest where students could guess what the final count would be. The two student contest winners were 2nd grader Ava Laham and 4th grader Sadie McCarthy. Congratulations!

Believe it or not, Mr. Lutinski and I are already working on school plans for March - June. You may think that everything just magically happens at Page Hilltop, like at Disney World, but I have to admit that we do spend lots of time planning everything out.

As we are all (sadly) aware, the pandemic has interrupted many of the traditional events & activities that we have always celebrated at Page Hilltop. We are determined to bring as many of these activities back to school, in one form or another.

It may not be exactly as it was previously but we hope to provide some exciting, engaging & enjoyable activities for our students, staff & families. Our school council members are already committed to this very same goal.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN PLAY A ROLE: Have a family discussion about traditional events that we have held in the past and may have missed out on these past couple of years. Which of these events do you consider to be most important to get back? Also, what other ideas might you have for new and different school events?

Send all of your ideas to Mr. Deppe via email or a written note.

Looking for something beneficial that your child can work on at home to continue their learning? Students, in grades K-2, have access to Lexia and can log in at home if they are looking for something to work on to improve their literacy skills. All students K-5 can also work on math lessons on Zearn.

Please find the links to these online tools below...

Students should have their usernames and passwords written down in their folders. If not, please email your child's teacher for this information.
