Updates from our Principal
Good afternoon Firebird Nation!!
And now we are down to 3 weeks. It is so hard to believe how quickly everything is moving. Again, every day I am thankful to have the opportunity to work with such an amazing group of teachers and staff as well as each and every student. I am blessed.
This week began the start of our final progress monitoring through Star 360. Each grade level has been given a specific set of days to administer this final round of Star 360. Star 360 is done through both reading and math. This gives our teachers and students an opportunity to see how each student has grown from the beginning of the school year to the end. This will also help us to prepare for the upcoming school year. The more data we are able to utilize to inform our instruction, the better we are able to serve our students.
Our April incentive, Kona Ice, was Monday. Boy, was it a beautiful day! The weather was amazing. The explore teachers did an amazing job organizing the event to ensure everyone had a great time. Students received a free Kona Ice as did our staff members. It definitely felt like summer had arrived. Great job, everyone!
As the end of the year is upon us, please encourage your student to look at their grades in PowerSchool. If there are any concerning grades, encourage your student to have a conversation with their teachers regarding grades. Remember to get your work done in class. Remember to be successful, stay focused in class. If you need any help or support, please reach out to our grade level administrator or counselor.
Another reminder as the end of the school year approaches, encourage your student to focus finishing the year with strong behavior. We have seen an uptick of students being late to class, hats/hoodies, phones and air pods. Please remind your student of these expectations. Dress code is another area students need to be mindful of as we finish these final 3 weeks of school. This time of year kiddos get a little squirrelly and we need to continue to hold everyone to high expectations.
Have a great weekend and make this an amazing end to our school year!
Mrs. Elena Forehand
Principal

The 6th grade Red Team participated in a 2 day cross-curricular lesson this week. In their Science learning plan, they were practicing forces and measurement and in their Social Studies learning plan they learned about historical perspectives through the use of inventions. The Western Hemisphere teacher, Ms. Vari, taught students about the atlatl invention that Paleolithic humans invented to help them throw spears farther. Students (with parent permission) threw spears with and without the atlatl (and also threw a control group of tennis balls) and compared the length of each throw. What a great way to make learning hands-on and fun!

Choice & Success: Site Visit to Big League Graphics
A total of 26 Art Club students from Falcon Middle School toured the business of Don and Shirley Petrow this week. They learned all about t-shirt design and printing in many different ways. Starting from a basic drawing to the finished product students were able to experience this work opportunity and learn what it is like to be a small business owner. A huge thanks to Ms. Pappalardo and Ms. Lockard in connecting this opportunity with the Choice and Success program!

Firebird Nation Campus Expansion
We have made it to the end of our construction updates for the year! Construction is just about complete…less than 2 weeks to go on the expansion! All of the interior work is pretty much complete. Teams are completing their walkthroughs and identifying anything that needs to be fixed. We expect our inspections to take place over the next couple of weeks. Crews are working to finish the outdoor recreation areas for the 6th grade recess and athletics. New furniture will start arriving and get installed in all of the areas over the next three weeks. Once school ends, there is just one final project to complete…the removal of the dividing wall! The wall you see in this picture will be coming down during the first two weeks of June so that the new wing and the existing Bennett Ranch building can officially join together as one new campus complex. Bennett Ranch Elementary will serve all BRES PreK - 5th Grade Students. The new Falcon Middle Annex will service the 6th grade students from FMS. Over the summer, new signage will be getting installed to help with branding on all of the different areas. We will also be hosting a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the start of the new year. Thanks for all of your support as we completed this exciting new construction on the Firebird Nation Campus!
