SLS Weekly Update
April 1, 2022
Congratulations Jen Martin!!!
Congratulations Jessica Smith
COMICS will be on Sora late April1! Below Google sheet is all of the titles!!!
Follett Update
1. An email can be sent to parents every time their student checks a book out with the title, author and blurb about the book.
2. An option for guardians to go into Destiny, do a search such as LGBTQ, and check any book in the search results that they don't want their child to read.
SLSA was firm in saying they felt this has too much potential to put students at harm and could be a privacy breach. Follett responded that the coding has not been completed yet, it would be a separate module to purchase, and would only be available on request. SLSA encouraged them to seek dialogue with ALA, AASL, and state school library organizations before making their decision.
Please know that SLSA has plans to release a formal statement next week, but I wanted to keep you apprised of the situation.
As an aside, I contacted Harry at Opals and he said, based on feedback from SLSA, they will NOT be putting this on their development list. Additionally, they will be rolling out an ability to anonymize loans and not keep loan history.

Advocacy Alert
The Assembly and House have both put forth budget proposals that call for increased state aid for libraries and systems. (A big improvement over recent years!) Please take a minute to encourage our representatives to approve these budgets by clicking the Take Action link below.
Please notice a clause in the letter that is generated that says: (If possible, include specific example of how increased funding will benefit/be utilized in your system or library. If unavailable, delete this section) For you in school libraries, you could write a sentence about School Library System services or public library services. Or, alternately, just delete the sentence. Thanks!
