Athletics
We've had a very active few weeks in the build up to Athletics, with Y5/6 out today at Margaret Griffin Park, putting their skills to the test (to be followed by Zones selection for Week 8 of the term). Well done to all the children who have participated with such enthusiasm!
Class Placements
A reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is the final date to submit any information (we may not already be aware of) relating to your child's class placement for 2024
Our aim is to get the best possible balance across classes we can (both socially and academically) to ensure every child is able to settle in quickly and happily in the new year, so please get in touch if needed before our draft lists are put together by the teaching teams.
Reading & Maths Achievement
To give one illustration of the continuing high academic achievement of our students, please see below for some recent standardised (asTTle) testing data, which shows our children performing at very high levels in reading and maths when compared to NZ year level curriculum expectations (shown in blue, with the results in red denoting MENPS student achievement).

ASTTLE Maths, Term 4, 2023
Detailed analysis of the data also shows MENPS students in every subject and year level performing significantly higher than other high (Decile 10) school norms (including by ethnicity and gender). Without getting too wrapped up in statistical analysis, overall this places our amazing learners at the very highest levels of achievement in New Zealand for their respective ages.
The reasons for this success are complex, of course, but one thing we can be sure of is that it is a clear reflection not only of our fantastic learners and supportive families, but also of the hard work and dedication shown by an outstanding team of teachers and support staff.
Definitely something to celebrate, but it's important also to recognise that the kind of successful learning we promote at MENPS actually can't be captured by test scores.
Rich learning is so much more, involving the curiosity, discovery and sense of wonder that fuel teaching and learning here at MENPS - impossible to measure in grades, numbers and graphs, but just as important - exemplified beautifully by the snail inquiry pictures shown below!
