Hello from the School Nurses at Jordan Jackson!
While the holidays bring us the time to celebrate and enjoy the company of family and friends, it is also the time of year notorious for winter illnesses. We have started to see an uptick in illness among our Jordan/Jackson community. COVID, Flu, other viral illnesses, and the dreaded stomach bug have arrived. Our goal is for students to remain in school; however, there are some instances where your child may be dismissed due to illness or should not come to school. Please see below for further information or review the Mansfield Public Schools Health Services Page on when to contact the School Nurse or when to stay home guidelines.
When to keep your child home:
A positive COVID test. Please contact us for further guidance on isolation and when to return to school.
A temperature of 100.0 degrees or higher. Students should not return to school until their temperature is normal for 24 hours without fever reducing medications (Tylenol, Motrin etc.), regardless of a negative COVID test.
Vomiting or diarrhea. Students should not return to school for 24 hours after the last episode.
An undiagnosed rash.
Infections such as strep throat, conjunctivitis, ringworm, or impetigo, until they have been on prescribed treatment medication for 24 hours.
Please note that your child will be dismissed from school should a fever of 100.0 degrees or higher develop. Students will also be dismissed from school for episodes of vomiting or diarrhea that occur during school time. Nursing is no longer COVID testing or contact tracing in school. Please contact your child’s primary care provider for further guidance regarding your child’s illness if necessary.
Wishing you a happy holiday season and healthy New Year!
Your Jordan Jackson School Nurse Team,
Aimee Reber RN & Courtney Cogliano RN

iCARE Reading Volunteers Needed
Kim Piro is soliciting volunteers this year to serve as classroom readers to benefit her "iCARE” (Introducing Children to Acceptance through Reading and Education) program began 19 years ago to teach students in grades preschool thru 5 about their special needs peers. Books focus on a variety of different disabilities and are available in the school’s library.
If you are interested in volunteering, it can be very rewarding and takes as little as half an hour of your time. If you are an interested parent who would like to read one of these books to a classroom, please call/text Kim Piro at 781-630-0463 or email her at kimpiro20@gmail.com. You can also register to be a reader online at www.thejamiefund.org. Go to the website and click where it asks you to volunteer. Readings will start in January and go through February/March at all three elementary schools.
