Never Forget...
The morning of September 11, 2001, started out like any other for 29-year-old Sarah. She woke up, got dressed, and headed to work in Manhattan. She worked as a financial analyst at a large investment bank located in the World Trade Center.
Sarah arrived at work at 8:30am and went straight to her desk. She was working on a presentation for a client when she heard a loud noise. She looked up and saw a plane flying low overhead. The plane was headed straight for the building.
Sarah froze in shock. She couldn't believe what she was seeing. The plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center with a deafening crash. Sarah's entire world turned upside down.
She ran to the window and saw that the plane had caused a massive explosion. Smoke and debris were billowing out of the building. She knew that people were trapped inside, and she felt helpless.
Sarah and her coworkers evacuated the building as quickly as they could. They ran down the stairs, choking on the smoke and dust. When they finally reached the ground, they saw that the South Tower had also been hit by a plane.
The streets were chaotic. People were running and screaming. Sarah didn't know what to do. She was scared and confused. She just wanted to get home to her family.
Sarah and her coworkers eventually found their way to a nearby subway station. They took the subway to Brooklyn, where they met up with Sarah's husband. They were all shaken up, but they were grateful to be alive.
The events of September 11th changed Sarah's life forever. She lost friends and coworkers in the attacks. She also saw the worst of humanity, but she also saw the best of humanity. She saw people helping each other, even in the midst of chaos.
Sarah is now a volunteer firefighter. She wants to help others who have been affected by tragedy. She knows that she can never forget what happened on September 11th, but she also knows that she can't let it define her. She is determined to live her life to the fullest and to make a difference in the world.
This is just one story of the many stories that were affected by the events of September 11th. It is a story of tragedy, but it is also a story of hope. It is a story that reminds us that even in the darkest of times, there is always light.
September 11th
September 11th
The day the world stood still, In shock and disbelief. As towers fell and people cried, We all grieved.
We watched in horror, As death and destruction unfolded. And we wondered, Why would anyone do this?
We prayed for the victims, And for their families. And we vowed to never forget, The day that changed the world.
We will never forget the courage, Of the firefighters and police officers. Who ran into danger, To save lives.
We will never forget the resilience, Of the American people. Who came together, In the face of tragedy.
We will never forget September 11th, A day that will live in infamy. But we will also remember, The strength and compassion, That emerged from the ashes.
We will never forget, Those who lost their lives. But we will never give up, On the hope of a better tomorrow.
Spirit Week in Rewind...
BMS Spirit Week
BMS Spirit Week is a week where students dress up according to the theme of the day leading into the big football game on friday. This shows how much school spirit we have! On Monday it was Labor Day so no school, so we started dressing up on Tuesday. On Tuesday everyone could be a hunter or critter and it was amazing seeing all of the effort and detail that was put into the outfits. On Wednesday it is Will Ferrell vs Adam Sandler. Everyone was wearing outfits based off of those two people. Some people even had fake beards, flannel shirts, and baseball caps along with elf costumes. There were definitely more Adam Sandler outfits though. The homecoming parade was that afternoon, so everyone also showed their Bulldog Pride through celebrating and supporting the Bulldog floats and local businesses. Some of the floats included the Middle and High School football teams, High School basketball teams, Middle and High School cross country, cheerleaders, Star Steppers, etc. On Thursday, it was Surfer vs Bikers and there were really fun looking costumes with Hawaiian shirts and sunglasses. There was a pep rally for the middle school that day too. The band played the fight song and the choir sang the alma mater. The cheerleaders also did many routines full of flips and other impressive moves. Then Friday finally came. It was time to win against the Robinson Rockets. Since the Homecoming game is one of the biggest games of the year, almost the whole town goes to see the Bulldogs crush their competition. The game was close, but in the end, the Bulldogs took the victory. Because of the Bandera hometown support this game raises a lot of money for the town and the schools. This money can help the schools get what the students and teachers need this year. It can also go to the nonprofit businesses located in or close to Bandera. In total, almost 900 people came to the game! Now that's the Bandera hometown spirit! The high school band was in the bleachers and played at halftime and during the game to excite the crowd and support the football players. The cheerleaders played a big role in supporting the football team on their way to victory. To sum it up, the Bandera Homecoming week was wonderful and full of school spirit! :)

7th/8th Grade Football: Home Opener
The 7th and 8th grade football teams played hard fought games against the Llano Yellow jackets last night. The 7th grade lost a tough game but Garner Grabs had an impressive 60 yard touchdown run and earned himself the Offensive player of the game award after some great runs by Maysen Gonzales. On the defensive side Brody Moore had an impressive 14 tackles and 2 tackles for loss while playing Linebacker and Anthony Martinez dominated the defensive line with some huge tackles and an awesome sack against the Llano quarterback to earn defensive players of the game. The 8th grade team played a great game that ended in a 13-6 Llano win, and Hayden Drefke got big runs and a rushing touchdown at Running back, for Ian Prothro to have some great passes to his receivers ending with Hayden earning offensive player of the game. Hayden Drefke and Carter Hanks both had massive plays on both sides of the ball but especially on the defensive end to earn Co-Defensive players of the game for the 8th graders.

Bandera's Controversial Hog Explosion Event
Pig wrestling has been a fun (and dirty) event in town fairs for years, the game is fairly simple, a wild pig/hog is let loose in a pit and pig wrestlers try and subdue the pig by using teamwork and athleticism. Bandera has not shied away from this rough and dirty event, ever since 2002 Bandera has celebrated the “Hog Explosion Event” with an overwhelming success. Every year the whole town comes together and watches as a few wrestlers, up for the challenge, tussle around in the dirt to catch a hog, toss it in a sack, and take it to the finish line, all in one minute. The event never fails to bring people together for food, community, and just plain fun. The Hog Explosion event raises plenty of money every year for use in the town, schools, and library. Although, not everyone sees eye to eye on the event being all the fun that it’s cracked up to be.
The PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) organization seems to have an issue with fairs that celebrate the game of hog wrestling, and Bandera is no exception. PETA is known for its extreme opposition to anything related to animal cruelty, and the amount of people that follow PETA make it a powerful force. Bandera’s Hog Wrestling has caught the attention of PETA and its many followers, resulting in threats and attempts to get it shut down. After dozens of attacks and protests from PETA and other animal rights activists the event was faced with backlash from the community. However, after a few name changes, eventually settling on the Bandera Ham Rodeo, the event came back stronger than ever raising around $20,000 in 2019.
Eventually on June 8th, 2020, PETA had enough and decided to file a lawsuit against the Bandera Wranglers (the organizers of the Ham Rodeo.) “PETA contends that the event violates Texas state law, which prohibits any person from intentionally causing unjustifiable pain, suffering, or serious bodily injury to an animal”-peta.org, PETA claims that the Bandera Ham Rodeo illegally causes pain and bodily injury to the hogs both of which are a Class A misdemeanor according to Texas state law. They claim that the participants, consisting of families with children, are exposed to open wounds and bodily fluids from the hogs which may pose a risk of transmitting a zoonotic disease. PETA’s lawsuit against the Bandera Wranglers was, despite their efforts, eventually dismissed. PETA still makes an attempt to warn citizens of the potential dangers of the Ham Rodeo, on March 15, 2023, the PETA Vice President Daniel Paden goes on record saying “There’s a catch to the ham rodeo, and that’s the disease risk posed by pigs who become injured or wet themselves in fear. Anyone who has fallen ill or developed a rash or fever following this cruel spectacle is encouraged to contact PETA.” Even after all this time PETA has failed to shut down this staple in Bandera’s community.
Bandera’s Ham Rodeo has bounced back better than ever in recent years with money now being raised for the Boys and Girls club, the Bandera Kronkosky Library, multiple charities, and various other town affairs. The Bandera Ham Rodeo is celebrated annually so feel free to show your support next year and have some fun catching hogs, if you're up for the challenge that is.

Are you truly safe online?
¿Eres realmente segura en línea?
The internet is a very popular place and has almost 4 million users a day, but with this much attention draws hackers, people who try to get your information like your password or username and scam you. But you probably see companies like Google, Safari and Microsoft saying they will help you against hackers, but is this entirely true? No one can completely prevent anything or anyone from scams or can they? Hackers and scammers are everywhere online and everyday more and more people fall for their scams, they usually say stuff like: “Enter your email and address and we will send you 5 million dollars!!!”. Do not fall for these! Hackers and scammers try to lie to you saying you just won a free car, give us your credit card information and we will send you it, people fall for these because hackers and scammers try to convince you saying that you might have just won something or “you have the opportunity to get this car, only one left”, and people get convinced and give hackers their information. Hackers lurk behind every corner and website, hackers will do anything to have you give them your personal information, hackers have figured out ways to beat the systems and get past your online protection, but don’t worry companies like Google and Safari got your back, right? , ¿bien?]
Is Online Protection Real?[¿Es real la protección en línea?]
There have been many debates in the past if google has helped them from being scammed or if Google has scammed them? Same with Safari too, but people don’t know what to download anymore, or what to buy because so many scammers and hackers have rigged the system and made the internet not so safe anymore. But no worry Google and Safari has your back or so they say, don’t get me wrong, Google and Safari have substantially helped us against scammers and hackers, but are they really as safe as they say? There have been stories that say Google and Safari have not helped them, but that doesn’t mean that they do not help us at all. It is not the companies fault that hackers and scammers have beat the system, but that doesn't mean companies like google and safari can just blame the hackers and scammers for everything, google and safari should also consider not blocking the hackers but stopping them from becoming a problem in the first place, but needless to say yes, Google and Safari have made the internet safer and hackers and scammer free, but not entirely scammer and hacker free, but is has made the internet a safer place, but is the internet entirely safe?
Is the internet just evil? [¿Está Internet llena de maldad?
After all of the scamming and hackings that make the internet an unsafe place, it doesn't make the whole internet evil. Remember if we don't want the internet to be a bad place we have to make it safer ourselves; like staying away from websites with malware, and don't download anything that has bad cause or misleading information so that the internet doesn't suggest you websites like those and then you click on them and download more malware and hurt your online reputation. Remember if we don't want the internet being blocked and being a dangerous place, we can’t continue doing what these scammers and hackers want. To make the internet safer, follow these steps.
Stay away from sketchy websites
Never fall for adds that seem to good of a deal
Never give anyone your information to anyone online
Never download anything without knowing what it is, before downloading things, research about it to make sure you are not downloading any virus.
The internet is evil in many ways, but that doesn't always mean it's terrible. There are some good websites and games online that won’t try and hurt you. Websites like Google, ABC-Mouse.com, and others alike are made to help you. Many games and sites are specifically made to help people and kids, but with every good thing there is bad. Websites like Wikipedia sometimes lie, or trick you, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you should throw away all your devices and go live secluded in the woods, just check websites before you use them, your computer can tell you if a site is secure or not and you can always check by seeing the link. Most safe websites are tagged with .com or .org, while others like .us or .io are less safe and have a higher chance of scamming or hacking you. So in the end, the whole internet isn’t just bad but you should try and stay as safe as possible. Using apps like VPN can help you stay safe, so next time your online, keep an eye out for shifty sites and keep safe.

School Technology: How it has made our schools better
Around the 1920’s is when schools originally started using technology like the basic old radio. With the advent of radio, on-air classes were disseminated to students within listening range. In the late year of 1930, the overhead projector was introduced to schools. The ballpoint pen was added to schools in 1940 and headphones in 1950.
With all these new inventions added into the schools, kids were able to learn easier, and work better. There are still many people who say that technology is only distracting kids in school and making their grades go down, but think back to the older ages when kids didn’t have these things and had to work twice as hard to learn then kids nowadays. Technology isn’t as bad as it may seem because in reality it's helped so many kids across the world learn and accomplish great things.
How has technology truly affected our schools?
Technology has affected schools for the better, research shows that school studies went up by a whopping 7.3%! If you are wondering how technology has boosted school intelligence it’s because research shows that it engages students behaviorally, emotionally and cognitively. But it's not all technology that helps students, some make them worse! The type of device matters, some are associated with worse student outcomes. Some students use their chromebooks to play games in class which means they learn less and have a harder time keeping up with the rest of the class. However, other types of devices like calculators and tv projectors help not only our amazing teachers, but it helps the students' abilities to learn as well. We can all agree that school technology has boosted our school learning and helped us achieve better, but has school technology made our schools better, or worse? Well the truth is yes, it has made our school better, by adding school technology we have been able to learn lessons in more fun and exciting ways. Due to the technology being added to our school, our school has become way more safe and fun. So in conclusion, yes, technology has affected our schools for the better.
Should we advance school technology even more?
Truthfully I think we should advance technology that students use in school to make it better for the students' learning environment. With better technology than we do now, students could learn more, achieve better things in life and that is very important in life. This really is important because it can help students get a good job and get into better colleges, along with other amazing things. If humans are as smart as they are now, just imagine how smart we’ll be with better and more advanced technology! But with advances in technology means we have to answer an ongoing question: will students start to rely on technology so much that they will get used to just solving problems on their devices and never truly learn how to do it themselves? While this question may not be able to be answered right now, we will just have to hope that one day humans won’t just be cyborgs who can’t live or even think without our technology.

@dontstopbelieving "I always forget my badge in the morning. What should I do?"
@dearabby "First thing, every time you get home ALWAYS put it in your backpack. That way if you're rushing outside of the door, no matter what, you'll have your badge. Another thing you can do is hang it up on your bedroom door, so when you open the door, you remember it. Or if you're a car rider, you can leave it in the car and then in the morning, you can grab it before going to school. This way you won't get in trouble for detention. It's very important to have your badge because it lets our staff know you go to this school, and if there is ever an emergency, it allows students, teachers, etc. know who should be on campus.

Make a difference
The school nurse, Ms. Smith, was having a rough day. She had already seen a dozen students with various ailments, from the common cold to the occasional stomachache. But nothing could have prepared her for the next student who came to see her.
A little boy named Billy came into the nurse's office, holding his hand up to his face. "My nose is bleeding," he said.
Ms. Smith sighed. "Okay, let's take a look," she said. She gently pushed Billy's hand away from his nose and took a closer look.
"Hmm," she said. "It looks like you have a pretty bad nosebleed."
"Yeah," said Billy. "It just started bleeding all of a sudden."
"Well, I'm going to need to stop the bleeding," said Ms. Smith. "Can you sit down on the exam table?"
Billy nodded and sat down on the exam table. Ms. Smith grabbed a tissue and dabbed at Billy's nose.
"This might sting a little," she said.
Billy winced as Ms. Smith applied pressure to his nose. After a few minutes, the bleeding stopped.
"There," said Ms. Smith. "That wasn't so bad, was it?"
Billy shook his head. "No," he said. "Thanks, Ms. Smith."
"You're welcome," said Ms. Smith. "Now, why don't you go back to class and I'll call your mom to let her know what happened."
Billy nodded and left the nurse's office. Ms. Smith sighed again. She was glad that Billy was okay, but she was also glad that the day was almost over. She couldn't wait to go home and relax.
As she was getting ready to leave, the door to the nurse's office opened and Billy came back in.
"Ms. Smith?" he said.
"Yes, Billy?" said Ms. Smith.
"I just wanted to say thank you again," said Billy. "You're the best school nurse ever."
Ms. Smith smiled. "You're welcome, Billy," she said. "I'm glad I could help."
Billy smiled back and left the nurse's office. Ms. Smith watched him go and felt a warm feeling inside. She knew that she had made a difference in Billy's day, and that was all that mattered.
