UPCOMING EVENTS
SUPERINTENDENT PATRICK JENKINS
Reflection and Moving Forward! - As we close our first nine weeks of school, have you had an opportunity to reflect on our mission statement and the district’s strategic plan? Both are powerful components to the success of St Landry Parish School System. However, success is not something that can be done in a vacuum. Both the district and each school's success depend on the contributions of the students, parents, faculty, and staff. In essence, I believe what SLPSD has learned through its experiences and what I have learned through sports and my leadership experiences are that the most effective way to forge a winning team is to call on people’s need to connect to something larger than themselves. It requires all individuals involved to surrender their self-interest for the greater good so the whole adds up to more than the sum of its parts. Thus the saying, “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.” Bill Russell of the Chicago Bulls probably said it best, “Most teams have guys who want to win, but aren’t willing to do what it takes. What it takes is to give yourself over to the team and play your part. That may not always make you happy, but you’ve got to do it. Because when you do, that’s when you win.” What a team we have at SLPSD! Keep expanding and embracing our vision set forth by the board in which the group imperatives takes precedence over individual glory, and success comes from being awake, aware, and in tune with others!
Become What You Believe! Yes, We Can!
WORKKEYS IMPORTANT UPDATE
ACT allows two windows of WorkKeys administration with accommodations. Originally ACT only had one testing window and LDOE urged for another testing window for these students. So a student that requires accommodations on the WorkKeys assessment will have 4 opportunities to take the assessment-twice as a junior and twice as senior. The extended time accommodation can be given to students whose IAP/IEP requires that accommodation during the computer-based window and is allowed to test every 30 days.

GLORIA MALBROUGH - PERSONNEL RECRUITMENT COORDINATOR
Please note that CIS has completed the rollover for the 2019-2020 school year. I am working on giving you access for your observation entries and evaluation assignments. Comparing the list to the rosters of recertification completers I have come across more people that have not turned in their certificate than those that have. In order for me to give you access, I need to receive your certificate of completion.
Also, when making your evaluation assignments, do not give an assignment to a teacher that is no longer on your staff. Once you do that then it makes it hard for me to delete that person. If a teacher is on your CIS roster is listed as other, I need to know what capacity they are working in (ex. Speech therapist, nurse), I will assign their evaluator.
