These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million that will be offered next spring. To be considered for a Merit Scholarship® award, Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level of the competition. The release is made available here to provide information about the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Seal of Biliteracy Assessments & the LCPS Credit Through Testing Registration
This year, testing opportunities to earn the Seal of Biliteracy will be limited to current seniors only. There are two ways to demonstrate proficiency, depending on the language:
- (Virtual) - Online ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages® (AAPPL) will be made available, at no cost, for seniors who want to be tested for Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish. Contact Heather McDonald, BRHS Language Dept. Chair, to coordinate the administration of this online assessment.
- (In person) - Registration for the LCPS Credit Through Testing (CTT) is limited to current seniors who want to earn the Seal of Biliteracy. The CTT assessments will only be administered in the following languages: Bengali, Farsi, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tagalog, Tamil, Urdu and Vietnamese. Health mitigation processes will be in place to ensure safety at schools. Visit the World Languages website for more information, test dates/locations, etc. On September 21, 2020, a link will be posted on this site for students to register.
College & Career Planning
Financial Aid 101 Presentation
Topics Include: What is Financial Aid? How do I apply? What factors make up my financial aid award? How do I qualify for the most money?
Information is applicable to all institutions. Q&A will be open all evening to address your individual questions!

Completing the FAFSA Workshop
Seniors and Parents of Seniors planning to attend a 2 or 4 year college or university are invited to attend this virtual financial aid event on October 10, 2020 from 9:00 - 10:00 am.
Topics Include: Learning the Ins and Outs of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), common questions, concerns, and filing errors.
Information is applicable to ALL institutions.
Q&A will be open all evening to address your individual questions!
Virtual College Exploration Program
Join over 100 institutions for panels and college fairs over the course of eight weeks. All events are free and open to all students.
Sept. 14 - 18 - Transfer-specific panel presentations and virtual college fairs

- In lieu of our annual LCPS College Fair, the county created the LCPS Connect U website which has general information for over 150 colleges and universities, videos created by college reps about the college application process and more.
Virtual College & Military Rep Visits with BRHS Students - Meetings will be held on Mondays and a link will be sent to students after they sign up in Naviance Student.
Attend Alcanza, George Mason University's 20th Annual College Fair to promote higher education for Latinx students.
