Skills USA and CTSO's Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology
A career and technology based education will help your child be more than an average student. In today's society the combination of technical, academic and employability skills are essential for students to succeed in every day life. Skills USA is a Career and Technical Education Student Organization (CTSO) that exemplifies this concept.
During the 2015-2016 school year Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology demonstrated this success in helping prepare students for Skills USA competitions in T-Shirt Design, Culinary Wedding Cake Design, Advertising Design and Cosmetology Aesthetics. They also had teams of three compete in the Career Pathways Showcase and Skills Chapter Display. These types of opportunities require that students present in front of a panel of judges giving them valuable public speaking and presentation experience. Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology was fortunate to send five students to the National Skills USA competition in Louisville KY in 2015-2016 and hopes to improve on this number during the 2016-2017 school year.
Skills USA advisor Larry Rud included that during the 2016-2017 school year a informational meeting/booth was held during open house to help educate students and parents of the value and engagement that Skills USA can provide students. The first Skills USA interest meeting for students will be held on September 6th.
Mr. Rud expressed his goals for this school was to continue to increase student interest and help the FHP Chapter to achieve Level 1 Quality Chapter status. He also hopes to increase student community service hours that will help with Bright Futures Scholarship requirements.
Active engagement in education through student organizations truly helps prepare our future work force and community leaders to be College and Career Ready.
