An update for families from Centennial Public School
Dear Centennial Families -
This week we experienced rain, hail, howling winds and a lot of indoor recess! We were thrilled to see the sun shining on Friday and are looking forward to some gorgeous weather next week! October often lets us remember the warmth of the summer while anticipating the impending winter!
The indoor time this week allowed us to continue to develop collaboration skills, work towards team and class goals, and engage in some various inquiries and challenges. We've had a great week!
Hats off to the Cross Country Team who braved the elements at Fort Henry Hill for the District Cross Country Finals! The Centennial PS team were excellent ambassadors for the school. Congratulations to Will S - 2nd place, Levi - 3rd place and Will R - 10th place. These are amazing results! Thank you to all of the staff who volunteered their time to coach and support student athletes at Centennial PS!
This week we also recognized Early Childhood Educator Appreciation Day. Shout out goes to Ms Ghina, Mrs. Locke and Ms Hollywood for all of their contributions to the school and student learning!
Student Vote took place in the junior classes on Friday with students taking on the various roles of electoral officers. Given the municipal election on Monday (Centennial PS is a polling station), this was timely and exciting learning for students.
The School Council met on Monday and has planned an exciting family event for Wednesday October 26th. The Family Fun Halloween Dance is for students and their parents/guardians. Families are welcome to come to the school from 6:30-8pm for family-friendly dances and games. Cost is $2 per person or $5 per family. A canteen will also be available. Come in costume if you wish - no masks or weapons please!
Monday is a PA Day where staff will be engaging in learning together. There is no school for students. On Monday some Centennial families will also be celebrating Diwali, which is India's biggest holiday of the year. We wish all families who celebrate, a happy Diwali! We look forward to seeing students back on Tuesday! Have a great rest of the weekend!

Dress Purple
Every October, Children’s Aid Societies across Ontario raise awareness about the important role that individuals and communities play in supporting vulnerable children, youth, and families through the provincial Dress Purple Day campaign. The campaign is more important than ever, since the COVID-19 pandemic has created additional stressors for families, and in some cases has increased risk for the well-being and safety of children and youth.
This year, Dress Purple Day will take place on Thursday, October 27, 2022.
Ontarians are being asked to wear something purple to show children, youth, and families that they are here to help!

Families are welcome and encouraged to participate in the fundraiser as you are able. All proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support students at Centennial PS.
