Hello to our Northpoint Families,
We are excited for school to begin in less than two weeks. Although it’s still officially summer break, Northpoint is already buzzing with staff preparing inviting learning experiences and environments. I remember as a first grade teacher being so excited to get into my room in advance of my students coming. I still feel that joy each fall!
This week, we welcomed new staff to Spring Lake Park Schools and to our school. We are fortunate to have the following educators who are joining us at Northpoint:
- Anthony Brown – Paraprofessional
- Stephanie Carlson - Early Childhood teacher
- Madeline Darsow – Second grade teacher
- Julia Helmeid - Paraprofessional
- Michael Malan – Paraprofessional
- Kristan Shuppan - Autism Spectrum Disorder teacher
- Jade Steward - Paraprofessional
- Kristan Shuppan - Autism Spectrum Disorder teacher
- Ryan Wescome - Paraprofessional
Health and Safety Updates
Last evening, the school board took action to update the health and safety plan for the school year. Due to high virus transmission in Anoka County, students in grades preK-6 will be starting the school year with face masks – except while eating or outdoors. Refer to the message sent earlier today explaining the plan and process. By federal requirement, all students on buses will need to wear masks.
SLP Schools Online continues to be an option for families in all grade levels. A trimester commitment is required and enrollment is open until the end of the day Sunday, August 29.
Teacher assignments
On Monday, August 30 at approximately 5 p.m., teacher assignments will be available in Campus Parent Portal. If you haven’t yet set up your Campus Parent Portal, please do so prior to the start of the school year.
Meet and Greet, Wednesday, Sept. 1
Students and their families are invited to attend meet and greet on Wednesday, September 1. We will host a variety of opportunities throughout the day, with sessions at 1-2 p.m., 4-5 p.m. and 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Last names A-M for visits to the classroom
- 1-1:30 pm.
- 4-4:30 p.m.
- 5:30-6 p.m.
Last names N-Z for visits to the classroom
- 1:30-2 p.m.
- 4:30-5 p.m.
- 6-6:30 p.m.
In order to keep cohort sizes as small as possible we ask that families do their best to come at their recommended times. While at Northpoint, you will have the opportunity to visit with your student’s teacher in their classroom. Your student is invited to bring their school supplies to drop off during Meet and Greet. Non-classroom teachers and staff will be located outside on our front lawn, weather permitting. Our administrative staff and Nurse Tammy will be available to take care of any needs you may have; they will be located in the main office. If you are not able to attend and would like to connect with your child’s teacher, please contact our Northpoint office at 763-600-5700.
As a reminder, the CDC recommends universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. We request that you do wear a mask while inside Northpoint, thank you in advance for your compliance.
Find additional reminders below as we gear up for the start of school. Take a look and let us know of any questions. Most importantly, enjoy these last few weeks of summer. We’re excited to see you on Tuesday, September 7.

Arrival & Dismissal Information
If your child rides the bus, bus information, including bus stop, pick up and drop off times is expected to be mailed to homes this week. Please plan for your student to ride the bus on the first day of school to help us work out all of our routines and eliminate as much confusion as possible.
As a change to our previous communication, we will only be offering a drive-up line for both arrival and dismissal. There will be no parent walk-up this year.
If you live in close proximity to Northpoint and want to walk your student to or from school, you may wait on the sidewalk at the end of the drive-up line for a staff member to assist you.
Parent Drive-up/Arrival
- Students may be dropped off starting at 9 a.m. Students will be supervised by a school staff member until they enter the building at 9:10 a.m.
Parent Drive-up/Dismissal
- Students will be dismissed from the gym under the supervision of school staff to meet their parents in the drive-up line. We ask that parents post a sign on their windshield with their child’s first and last name, and their homeroom teacher during dismissal. We count on this information to help the process go as efficiently as possible. Parents may begin to line up in front of the building no earlier than 3:35 p.m.
Please practice the following in the drive-up line during arrival and dismissal:
- Stay in your car while dropping off students
- Pull as far forward before dropping off your students
- Students must exit curbside
- Please follow the traffic flow and do not pass other vehicles
- Do not block neighboring business driveways when waiting

First Day of School Signs
We love to see students on the first day of school, so we created first day of school photo signs for each grade that families can print or pull up on their iPad and use in their first day of school photos. Don't forget to tag us and use #SLPPantherProud when you post your photos!
Enroll for voluntary supplemental student accident insurance
Accidents aren’t supposed to happen, but they do. School recess, one-day field trips and general day-to-day activities can all lead to injuries. Having coverage during school hours, or around the clock can ensure students get the care they need without financial hardship to their families. This program is completely voluntary and any enrolled student is eligible for coverage. Parents or guardians of students are responsible for enrollment and premium payment.
