Parents/Guardians for Class of 2021 - MCAS Information
Dear Parents/Guardians for the class of 2021-
Monomoy Regional High School will be administering the Grade 10 English Language Arts MCAS on March 26th and 27th where each student in grade 10 will be tested. These test dates are set by the state of Massachusetts and therefore consistent attendance during these days is extremely important.
The MCAS test results will be used to determine student eligibility for a high school diploma. In addition, The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is given to high school students who perform exceptionally well on each of the MCAS exams would give the students an opportunity for reduced tuition at a Massachusetts state college or university.
In an effort to maximize results on the exam, please urge your child to eat a nutritious breakfast on the days of testing, and suggest as much sleep as possible on the nights prior to the exam. As always, if you have any additional questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at school.
Sincerely,
Jennifer L. Police
Assistant Principal
Monomoy Regional High School

Animal Welfare Club Attends Owl Presentation
On Saturday, March 9, Monomoy Regional High School Animal Welfare Club members had the
opportunity to attend a wonderful owl presentation held by the Harwich Conservation Trust. The presenters were Marcia and Mark Wilson, teachers, naturalists, authors and photographers in Massachusetts. The program is called, Live Owls from Near and Far.
Marcia and Mark Wilson founded their program in 1994 as an educational enterprise that brings wild owls to a school or group so you can learn more about your wild neighbors and their habitats. The owls they care for are permanently disabled - that is they can't survive on their own in the wild. Many of the owls are survivors of collisions with vehicles. They give each owl a safe, clean, low stress home and all the mice they need to eat. Several times a week, they bring a selection of owls to a school or group programs to help people learn about these fascinating birds.
Marcia and Mark have federal and state permits to display the owls for educational programs. The owls ARE NOT pets! Owls have sharp talons and beaks, special dietary and health requirements, as well as special housing custom built for each bird. Non-flighted owls have handicapped ramps in their aviaries. Some of the owls they displayed to us on Saturday were the Great-Horned, Snowy, Barred, Eastern Screech, Spectacled (from South America) and a Eurasian Eagle Owl – one the largest owl species in the world. Mark and Marcia presently care for 14 owls and one Marsh Hawk (Kestrel) at their home in Massachusetts.

"Newsies" Spring Musical
WHERE: MRHS Auditorium
New York City, 1899. Jack Kelly and his ragtag team of newsboys make a meager living selling newspapers on the city streets. But when the prices of “papes” are hiked and the newsies are hung out to dry, there is nothing left to do but “open the gates and seize the day!” Led by charismatic Jack and independent, young newspaper reporter Katherine Plummer, the Newsies form a union and organize a strike against the greedy publisher of the New York World. Can a group of idealistic newsboys win against a foe as powerful as acclaimed publisher Joseph Pulitzer? Athletics Weekly Summary
March 9th - March 15th
Written by: Caroline Howard
Boy has it been a jam packed week! Between Jawsome hour starting back up again and the opening of “Newsies” I can barely keep up with the blisters on my feet! Let me tell you I definitely need some new shoes! But this week I am here to tell you all about the events to mark your calendars for! So, without further ado…
Well folks, take those Sharpies out of the junk cabinet, which I know we all have, and make a note of the Winter Sports Award Night happening this Sunday, March 17th! The fun-filled evening will kick off at 6:00 with refreshments, and awards will begin at 6:30! There will also be a slideshow filled with the Sharks action shots created by yours truly, so please cross your fingers my computer won’t get a bug within the next few days! Hope to see all of our Winter athletes and their families there! Let’s make it a great night!
Another important thing to remember is to sign up for Spring Sports (which kick off on Monday) on Family ID! Make sure you sign up, have an updated physical if you need it, and make sure your Impact Test is squared away with our Athletic Trainer Ms. Murray! Please make sure these are all checked off the list, otherwise athletes cannot practice on Monday! So please Sharks if you need to, “Do Your Job” and make sure you are all set for the first day of practice!
The Cape Cod High School Basketball All Star game is also this Sunday at HYCC. Come see Sharks Erin Starkey at 1:15 and Jamie Routhier, Isaiah Stafford and Chris Hall at 3:30.
Unfortunately folks, that is all I have for you today! However, our athletes are gearing up for another incredible season of sports, which means I will be back next week to tell you all just how fast our Sharks are swimming! For now, I’m Caroline Howard and Go Sharks!

Shout out to Adriana Picariello for letting about a dozen of my journalism students interview her for her insights on sharks, the overuse of plastics, and other environmental issues. She was really patient and gave them some great interviews to work with - the 8th graders I teach all hold her in high esteem.
And to all of the other teachers and administrators who let students speak to them as well, thank you so much. -Ms. Ashleigh Bennett
- Shark Shoutout to custodian Greg Hines. He helped fix William Ramos' wheelchair one morning and we would like to thank him. -Ms. Kathy Vagenas
