Teeland Middle School
April 2023
Letter from the Principal
4/01/2023
Dear Teeland Families,
Welcome to SPRING! It is great to feel the heat from the sun and have longer, lighter days. I’m sure your students are enjoying the weather changes and anxious to be outside.
I am excited to be able to announce a recent building upgrade to increase the safety of your children while they are in our building. We recently had our entrance wired to put a lock system in place. Similar to elementary schools, TMS will now have the front doors locked during the school day. From 8:00 am until 1:30 pm, visitors will need to ring the doorbell on the right-hand side of the doors, hold up their ID close enough for the staff to read, and then wait for the doors to be released. Asking to see ID is standard procedure for picking up students and we need to be able to verify that the correct driver is here to pick up your student. This additional safety measure may be a minor inconvenience to some but is well worth the extra time and patience as we continue to increase safety for our students. This system will be activated starting next Monday, 4/3/23.
I am also excited to announce the new principal of Teeland Middle School! Ms. Karla Head will begin her tenure in August 2023.
Below is an excerpt from our Principal Post:
Dr. Trani is pleased to announce the selection of Karla Head as the next Principal of Teeland Middle School. Karla currently serves as the Technical Center Director for Northwest Arctic Borough School District in Kotzebue, AK. Karla has 23 years of experience in education as a coach, math teacher, assistant principal, principal, and director. Karla’s commitment to instructional leadership, experience with PLCs, and focus on student access came through during the interview process. Please join Dr. Trani and his leadership team in welcoming Karla as the next Teeland Middle School Principal!
I have decided to step out of administration next year and move into the classroom! I want to thank our school community for their support over the previous five years.
Mrs. Hinds
