Welcome to Week 15
Dear Athey Community,
Need vs Want, Credit vs Debit, Save vs Spend are just a few of the vocabulary words our 6th graders are working on in their Financial Literacy units. As we go into the winter break it might be fun to check in at dinner time to see what they've learned and how they think it applies to their future!
Our leadership students are working hard to add spirit and fun to our school. They are planning another spirit week for December 12th - 16th. You can look forward to having your closets raided for:
Monday the 12th: Ugly Sweater Day
Tuesday the 13th: Tropical Day
Wednesday the 14th: Twin Day
Thursday the 15th: Snow Day
Friday the 16th: Pajama Day
Athey Idol is back this year for their 18th year on Dec 9th! This evening of music is the fundraiser for our choir and drama department. Decorations of balloons, lights and streamers, professional spotlights and even a runway will transform our cafeteria into a concert hall. I've been helping run the sound board and can tell you these students will blow you away! Complete information, including times and ticket prices, can be found on the Athey Idol poster below. We look forward to seeing you there!
Have a great week!
Sincerely,
Joel Sebastian

Lost and Found/ Lunch Boxes
Now is a great time to remind your students to go through the lunchboxes leftover in the cafeteria. Leftover food molds and attracts rodents so any left at the start of break will be thrown away.
Anxiety 101 Workshop
Join our School Social Workers as they present information on the basics of anxiety for students. We will provide information about how anxiety works and tools to effectively work through anxious feelings for ourselves and students. See the attached flier!

Student Health Survey
Our 6th and 8th grade students will be participating in the Oregon Student Health Survey on Tuesday, December 13th. The Student Health Survey (SHS) is a collaborative effort between the Oregon Health Authority and the Oregon Department of Education to improve the health and well-being of all Oregon students to help them succeed. Good health is an essential educational tool. Research shows that healthy students have better attendance, get higher grades and test scores and are less likely to skip school, drop out or engage in risky behaviors. The Student Health Survey is the only source of statewide data that gives a snapshot of how students are doing physically, emotionally and socially.
Outdoor School - Save the Date
The West Linn-Wilsonville School District collaborates with the Multnomah Education Service District to provide an Outdoor School experience for our sixth grade students. We are so excited to be able to offer a traditional overnight outdoor school experience this year. Please save the dates of May 30th - June 2nd so your students can participate in this opportunity.
Much more information to come in late winter/early spring.

West Linn-Wilsonville COVID-19 Reminders
WLWV continues to support the health and safety of our students and staff. All students and staff members are expected to monitor for signs and symptoms of illness. As we move through this pandemic, community support has grown and access to COVID-19 tests are more readily available in the community. A school may send a student home with an at-home test in certain situations, but onsite testing is not available.
If you are seeking more regular testing, Oregon Health Authority does support a staff screening program (linked here). Students and staff are required to isolate at home in the event they test positive for COVID-19 or if they are exhibiting 2 or more COVID-19 symptoms. Please use this screening tool to determine whether or not you or your student should come to school.
