Jo's Sport Talk
Last Wednesday, we held the annual TPS Cross Country event. This is one of the sporting highlights of the year, as the whole school gathers at Memorial Park, dressed in their brightly coloured house t-shirts, singing house chants and cheering on their peers. Despite being a slightly simplified course this year, it was still a challenging track, and we were treated to some exceptional races. Congratulations to our runners who placed in the top three of their year group. The cross country event provided moments where students had to show determination just to complete the track, and this too was an achievement to be celebrated. Thank you to all the parents who came and supported our athletes. I'm not sure I have ever seen so many parents cheering the runners on at the finish line. Thank you to the Year 6 Sport Leaders and House Leaders for their contribution to the day; helping set up the course, as well as guiding and encouraging our younger runners around the track.
Congratulations to the following children who placed in the top three in their race:
Year 6 Boys: 1st Max Taylor, 2nd Louis Evans O’Loan, 3rd Drew Morgan
Year 6 Girls: 1st Kate Faitl, 2nd Sophie Ormsby, 3rd Alex Winterbottom

The top three runners in the Year 4-6 races, plus the next top four, will now compete at the South Cluster Cross Country Championships on Tuesday 15th June at Waipuna Park. This event is a huge step up from the TPS course, as it is not only longer, but also includes massive hurdles to climb over and a gruelling hill to ascend. Keep training hard, and best of luck!
Two weeks ago, the TPS Year 3 & 4 and Year 5 & 6 RIP Rugby Teams competed at the West and South Cluster RIP Rugby World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Greerton. On completion of the pool games, the Year 3 & 4 team found themselves playing off for 5th and 6th position against Merivale Primary School. The team had a convincing win finishing 5th overall.
The Year 5 & 6 team had a very successful pool round, earning themselves a spot in the Grand Final, playing against Maungatapu Primary School. This was a nail biting match, with TPS scoring seconds before the full time whistle, winning 5-4. This team will now compete at the BOP RIP Rugby World Cup next week in Paengaroa. Good luck!
