Dear Raleigh Hills Staff,
I hope you had a great Staff Appreciation Week. I certainly enjoyed seeing the pictures of everyone with their signs. I am so grateful that you continue to hang in there with me and do the very best you can for students each day.
Going back to my favorite Veg Out activities, I have been watching the Chicago Bulls documentary on ESPN on Sundays. It reminds me how much I loved watching the Bulls growing up and how much I am inspired by sports figures like Scottie Pippen and the GOAT Michael Jordan. My kids are cringing at my use of the acronym, but it fits. Michael was so talented but one of the things I admire is his focus. He could focus on a problem like no one I've ever seen and will outcomes into reality. So this week, I know you're weary, but keep your focus. We will get there and we will make this happen for our students. This entire staff is filled with people who make it happen! I admire you and all of your efforts.
With appreciation,
Jennifer

Schedule Changes for Next Week
Announcements
We will be having Camp Achieve for rising 1st through 5th graders this summer. It will be 8 weeks long and fully online. If you signed up to teach, you should be receiving information soon. Cost to families for participation is $10/child. We will be limited in the number of students that we can nominate to attend Camp Achieve so I am including a form here. You can nominate any student from your class or those you work with (ELD and SPED should feel free to nominate students). If we get too many, I will prioritize those who were successful at connecting during distance learning.
Class Size Input
I will need this information by Monday at 4pm. Please take a moment to fill out this survey.
SEL Scoop from Juliet
It's Time to Accept that the Point of School has Changed
This was an interesting article from CNN about the parent perspective of distance learning.
"This pandemic offers an incredible opportunity to reassess what school is for and what it should do in the long term. I look forward to having that conversation later, when the urgency of this time has faded. We as parents are learning so much: What our students and children are capable of and where they are behind. How PTA meetings can be better attended when video conferencing in is an option. How kids can stay connected when they're out sick, if the technology is universally available. And how academic work can be done remotely for certain learners even in non-pandemic times. But nothing replaces the value of face time with teachers, and the social learning that comes with interacting with peers."
